And finally - and that’s it (can you tell it’s a slow day in the financial markets??) - to complete my advice to setup daily goals.

here’s another tactic: I opened today a whatsapp group with 10-12 good mates (that’s buddies in Brit) and told them all to bring 2 orders each. Now they are actually shaming one another to do it; to a state that one guy told me today in a private chat "I feel like I’m working for you" .. here’s thinking outside the box for ya :)

One more, a quick Amazon ask!

In advance of my trip  over  4th of July weekend to NY to participate in Thrillerfest  (a huge writers and readers conference in the thriller genre), Inkshares and I have been brainstorming ways to spike sales of  the first book in my Maren Kane thriller series! We’ve  lowered the ebook price on  to 99 cents  on Amazon as a special short-term promotion to enable friends and colleagues who’ve read One Murder More and liked it to GIFT it to someone for only 99 cents!  (Or if you haven’t gotten it yet, maybe this is the right time to put it in your queue for that "someday read?)   It’s easy, you go to the link below, and when you purchase the ebook (for 99 cents) on the right-hand side there is a box to click that says "Give as a gift". Enter the gift recipient’s email & Amazon sends it directly to them, you’re done!

I hope (perhaps optimistically) to have 100 gift copies purchased this week!

If this is not for you I completely understand and in any case, thanks for your love and support!!

And keep in mind that its not as simple as "the more you get, the easier it will become". That may be true when you have 500 orders but I’ve already received 87 hard fought orders for my Nerdist contest entry and am struggling to keep up any momentum at this point, let alone enough to keep up with my target.

Be sure to access your dashboard often to keep track of progress. It’s a great motivation tool and is your way of communicating and motivating those who are following your book.
Here is a screenshot of my dashboard as it stands today. As you can see, orders generally are very sporadic and I’ve only received 5 or more orders in a single day a handful of times.

That big spike in the middle came courtesy of another Inkshares member who was gracious enough to get his own contacts list to order my book. I owe that guy a lot, especially if I finish in the top 3. Don’t be afraid to ask people on here if they can help, but bear in mind that they may ask for a bit of reciprocity (love that word Joni).

One more thing - Create achievable goals. u will not reach 250 orders overnight. So best to say, i want to get there by X time, which means 4-5 orders per day. So that’s the goal 4-5 order TODAY. Tomorrow’s a new day.

Reaching for the moon is great, but you have to plan carefully and be careful not to get discouraged by your own expectations. Nobody can jump from here to the moon, so today we’ll design our rocket, tomorrow we’ll get materials, the day after tomorrow we’ll start building it, etc - you get the picture.

You are writing in, what is notoriously, the hardest genre to sell. Literary Fiction is not an easy genre to break into.

You have my sympathy buddy. It’s a hard slog.

I’ve even started asking my customers at work to order, not all of them as that’d be unprofessional but I’ve picked those with whom I have/had a decent relationship and it worked. True it only brought in a further 5/6 orders but that’s a step closer. Added to the 4 orders from colleagues (I work in a small company) and that makes 10.

The pressure is even more intense when you’re in a contest!
