Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for The Two Stegosauruses

Hello again everyone!  This is Daniel, author of the picture book, The Two Stegosauruses!  Thank you so much for expressing interest in my book about socially awkward dinosaurs that fall in love.  I know it’s been a long time without an update, but I’ve been very busy I promise!  I have some very exciting news.

I’m contacting all of my readers on Inkshares, including you of course, to let you guys know that the book is finally available for preorder.  Yes you heard me right, you can order it right now!  It’s finally ready!  Over the past year I have been hammering out contract and publishing details with the owner of Tubby & Coo’s, the head of the imprint I was part of here on Inkshares.  We’ve decided to do it our way and publish our imprint directly through the bookstore rather than through Inkshares.  This is great news, because not only do I get to keep the rights of my book as an author, but my really fantastic neighborhood bookstore will also get to more directly have a hand in marketing and promoting the book.  This is a win/win for everyone involved.

The crowdfunding for the publishing imprint, including my book, started this week and we have already raised over $1500 dollars!  There are also multiple different reward levels with different prizes, including a bonus offer where you can get a speciality colored print made by me.  So please go check it out and consider all the books that are being offered!  Any amount you can contribute will help move the printing process along faster.  I’ve added the link below, but if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.  Thanks so much!!!!

Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for Mushroom and Anchovy

    Greetings, adventurers!

The Wednesday reading went well, despite some technical/parental? hiccups. You can watch the reading right here! I’ll do a reading of chapter 3 in a few more weeks--around mid-July. After some feedback, I’m going to try and keep the live readings to a shorter amount of time, keeping it just to the reading.

I announced my backer contest on the live stream on Wednesday night as well. Here are the rules!

    1. Preorder the book!
    2. Like and share the pinned post on my Facebook page (NOTE: make sure the share is public so I can see it!)
    3. Those three things are the pre-requisites for the contest. You can earn bonus entries, however...
    4. Share a picture of the book’s cover OR the business cards on Instagram  (1 entry each)
    5. Tweet a link to the book using the hashtag #MushAnch (1 entry)
    6. Being a Patron on my Patreon account gives you 1 entry per dollar value of your monthly contribution (i.e. $5 month = 5 entries)
    7. Referring a friend who preorders the book will get you 10 entries! Please get them to contact me after they have preordered. This is the only one you can do multiple times. If you refer 3 friends who preorder the book as well, you’ll get 30 bonus entries!
    8. Requesting a "street team" package and posting pictures of successful promotional material placement will get you 5 entries.

The prize? A $50 Amazon egift card (in YOUR CURRENCY). This contest will be going on until July 31st.

The Nerdist contest is officially over, so I imagine people will be looking to the LaunchPad contest now. This would be a great time to preorder and help Mushroom and Anchovy move up the contest ladder. We’ve dropped down to 6th place as another contender has swooped in to 5th! We still have several months of the contest left, however, so it’s still anyone’s game. I will continue to keep a close eye.

Speaking of the Nerdist contest, congrats to everyone in the Sci-Fi contest! Special congrats to backer and author of Curio Citizen Katherine Forrister, who got 2nd place! As you know, I was really pulling for her, so I’m so happy for her that she got in the top three! I can’t wait to read Curio Citizen!

I changed the name of the backer categories to something a little more in-universe: Adventurers are ebook tier, Agents are print book tier, and Commander is the 3-copy super backer name-in-the-back-of-the-book tier.

I know this is Lore Day but I’ve already inundated you with so much today that I don’t want to hold your attention too much longer! I’ll move it to Monday instead so you can get a DOUBLE LORE WEEK next week, and I’ll try to keep the updates to a minimum. Unless something awesome happens.

A final note: I’ve been submitting a press release for the book to multiple sources, and will be reaching out to different avenues over the coming weeks. As well, we’re just 11 preorders away from the chapter 4 posting. I hope to be able to share that incredibly zany chapter with you soon!

Whew! That’s a lot. Thanks for your attention, folks. Next week’s e-mails will be a lot more fun. ;)

May all your adventures be fraught with wonder and just enough peril to keep them interesting,

    K. M. Cooper

Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for The Life Engineered

Good day my friends, human or otherwise (I don’t judge),

Oh boy... It’s finally happened. I’ve pulled the trigger on the funding campaign for the sequel to The Life Engineered: Arch-Android. (pre-order now!)

Well, it’s like The Life Engineered, but more and better. The one complaint I got about The Life Engineered that I could never really shake was how the world was intriguing but not fleshed out enough. Good news: that is exactly where Arch-Android is going. Now that I feel more confident as a writer, I feel better equipped to write a longer, more complex book about the Capek and their evolving civilization. Expect more about their universe, new characters and several familiar faces. Check out the details and book trailer (voiced by the amazing Amy Landon, who did the The Life Engineered audiobook) on the campaign page.

Well, obviously you’ll want to pre-order a copy. If you feel like doing more but can’t order a bunch of books, lend your copy of The Life Engineered to a friend and recommend that they check out Arch-Android. Let’s grow the family.

I’ll be sending more of these updates of course, but to really stay on top of events, follow Arch-Android, or join my mailing list at jfdubeau.com/books (scroll all the way down).

      Thanks for your support!

Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for Mission 51

This is the best update of them all!

        WE DID IT!!!

With the help of you who are receiving this email (the “follower” list,) we finished the contest in the top three and have won the publishing prize! That is the dream of every writer, to be published. I have ONLY YOU to thank for that. There are many excellent writers who never have this opportunity. The difference here was YOU!

Here are the numbers: Mission 51 has an awesome number of “Followers” on Inkshares: 419. Most of you helped with a pre-order. Mission 51 would not be getting published like this without those pre-orders! Pre-orders is what Inkshares uses to determine who merits publication. It can’t be done on Inkshares without your vote of confidence and crowdfunding support! - Many followers helped with public exposure and awareness by simply “liking,” and “sharing,” and “commenting” on the Inkshares site, facebook, twitter, and instagram. Even without purchasing a pre-order, drumming up support for Mission 51 like that was enormously helpful. The level of interest and enthusiasm for Mission 51 was phenomenal! I will point out proof of that in just a bit.

Of the 419 Followers, 246 of you purchased a pre-order. Wow!!! That’s the number that counted for the contest. That’s the number that was top three out more than 180 submissions.

Those 246 fabulous supporters purchased a total of 267 copies, as some people purchased multiple copies of the book. That’s the crowdfunding Inkshares is looking for to: 1. prove the project is worth it, and 2. provide funds so they can at least start the expensive process of pre-production and production.

Those 267 copies broke down like this: 63% ordered ebooks, and 37% ordered physical books. That amounts to over $3,600 worth of crowdfunding support!!! That’s HUGE!!! Inkshares will use all of that and more to provide world-class editing, layout, production, marketing, and distribution services. I will update you all later on the timeframe of this exhaustive and comprehensive process.

So the Mission 51 project page on Inkshares suddenly changed at 3:00 AM EDT this morning as the contest ended. The part that said “Funding” now says “In Production.” I am so very, very happy and proud about that! The green funding bar has disappeared. But I’m happy that most of the content is still visible.

There is now one new little badge which appeared under the title and description on the Mission 51 project page. It says, “#18 Community Interest in Science Fiction.” I am blown away by that!!! There are many Science Fiction projects on Inkshares. To be ranked as #18 in Community Interest is unbelievable! That’s the proof about "interest and enthusiasm" I was alluding to!

I am starting to receive emails from Inkshares about my next steps. I have a number of things to learn and to decide, as you might imagine. As I know more, I will continue to keep you all informed through this medium. I ask for your patience as Inkshares navigates Mission 51 through their pre-production process. The goal is to eventually have a professionally polished product in your hands as soon as humanly possible. It won’t be as soon as anyone of us would like, but I will do my part to make it happen as soon as possible. I’ll keep you informed.

Again, THANK YOU! From the bottom, middle, and top of my heart, THANK YOU!!!

        Peace!

        Ferd 👽

I hope June has been good to all of you. In Australia, the end of this month marks the end of our Financial Year, so the joys of tax time commence! /faceplant.

The past month has been another busy one, but the statistics won’t reflect that this time — I haven’t completed any more scenes and my word count hasn’t increased. Instead, the time has been spent digging deeper into the world building with my editing team, making sure everything we include (or exclude) is rock solid.

Coming out of this round of workshops, we have deeper science, more detailed history, and a path forward that will (hopefully) deliver something fresh to the genre.

Looking ahead, there’s still some work to complete before diving back into the rewrite again, but we’re close, and I can’t wait to get more of this to (digital) paper.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to jump on Facebook and give my author page a like, or sign up to my author newsletter (covers broader content than just this novel).

The following is a special sneak peek from a revamped prologue I’m looking forward to sharing the full thing:

Six letters ended the world. We didn’t realize it at the time — swept away by the excitement of advancing technology and endless possibilities. We failed to predict the chain of events which would follow, but in hindsight they appear inevitable. Sooner or later, someone was bound to be tempted as we were. Perhaps they wouldn’t have made the same mistakes. Perhaps they would have been more cautious. Perhaps not. History cares not for your regrets, pays no heed to your guilt. It will not change regardless how often or fervently you pray. History’s purpose is not the past, but the future. If we are lucky, we learn, move on, and build a better tomorrow. If we don’t, I fear we are all doomed...

Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for Kanimbla

            G’day everyone,

This will be the last update from me regarding Kanimbla.  I just wanted to let you know that after spending the last month deliberating, I have made the decision to cancel the Kanimbla campaign on Inkshares.

There are a number of reasons for this, the largest being that Inkshares’ distribution power is severely limited outside North America.  If I knew then what I know now, it is very unlikely that I would have ever considered a campaign with Inkshares.  The only reason I spent the last month considering my options is because there is still more than a month to go in the campaign (two months when I first came to the realisation that Inkshares might not be the best publishing option for me), the campaign has received backing from the Fantasy Syndicate and is about halfway to its goal which meant that the campaign was very likely to successfully achieve the Quill publishing goal if I were to continue.  So I had to make sure that cancelling was the right decision.

In the end, I have decided that the benefits from publishing through Quill do not outweigh the disadvantages of Inkshares’ poor distribution power, which would have prevented the book from ever appearing in Australian bookstores (although it would have been on American shelves), and either sorely cost my Australian readers or forced me to self-publish in addition to Quill in order to alleviate some of the unwieldy shipping expenses.

I have emailed Inkshares to cancel the campaign so for those who have already pre-purchased their copies, refunds should start being processed over the next few days.

For those on Inkshares who have backed me, I wish you well with your own campaigns.  You’ve been a great bunch and I plan on staying in touch over Slack.

For my friends and family who have already supported me, I am absolutely overwhelmed that you would even consider paying $50+ for my book just to support me, and shocked that the number of you that opted in at the $120+ level for three books.  Although I have always prided myself on my choice in friends, that was a lot to ask, but you delivered without hesitation.  It means a lot to me.

However, this is not the end of the road for Kanimbla.  I will be pursuing other publishing opportunities, and one way or another the book will be published.  If everything goes pear-shaped and I am unable to have Kanimbla published through traditional or alternative means, I will pay for professional editing and design services and then self-publish the book so that it will be available at a fraction of the cost Inkshares was charging (approx $20 delivered instead of $60) for the same quality book.   I should be able to pull most of your email addresses off Inkshares so when Kanimbla is in production, I will let you know.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to follow me on https://www.facebook.com/cshpicone/ and/or https://twitter.com/csh_picone as I will still be producing short stories, poetry, game reviews, interviews, and other content in the meantime.

Thanks again and love you all!

            Cheers,
            Pico

Rohitha Dassanayake liked an update for Artificial Generation

              Hey everyone!

So the Nerdist Contest is over, and I’m sorry to say that Artificial Generation was not among top 3, so it won’t be published this way.
Then again, I am over the moon for being among top 10 in this contest, and want to thank all of you for that. It would not have been possible without your help and support. It meant, and mean, a lot to me still. Thank you from the bottom of my being.

              So what happens now?

Well, originally I had planned to go through with the campaign and try to publish the book through Quill or even a full funding, but life gets in the way.
Because of some personal issues, I have decided to end the campaign now - if Inkshares will let me - and not publish Artificial Generation just yet.
The book is finished, and I do plan to publish it in the future, but it will not be withing the next months. I do hope you will still be interested when this happens, and I will keep you all updated!

Again, thank you so, so much for your help and support!
And congratulations to the 3 winners!

              Cheers,
              Anniken
