I have to say that Pixilated Obsidian Roses is a well-round work of descriptive storytelling that pulls your imagination in and has it running through multiple dimensions before you even realize it! The characters are well written and causes the readers to easily get immersed in the story line as it plays out before us! I highly recommend this one and dare say, one would be hard pressed to find a dark fantasy of this caliber in this day and age.

If a lost book of David Lynch poems were transcribed into narrative by H.P. Lovecraft while listening to Rush's "Cygnus x-1" (song series), the end result would probably be something like Pixilated Obsidian Roses. All kidding aside, this has the potential to be a masterful work. Of course, I love the gritty snapshots and embedded photos woven into the narrative as well. Martin has crafted a carefully planned world that expands as it shrinks, and hides as it reveals. It's mystifying, spooky, and fascinating all at once, and like many other who have commented--I find myself drawn inside its dark shadows more and more. A must own!

          Hey Everyone,

With 13 days left in the campaign, we are 51 percent funded. Thanks to those of you who pushed me past that mark over the weekend. We just need 121 orders and we are published!

Last week, I said that every new pre-order made until we hit 250 would be entered into a drawing for an Amazon gift card. However, I have decided to change that. Rather than one drawing at the 250 mark, we will have three drawings at three different milestones.

The first drawing will happen at the 150 mark. All pre-orders that were made since my last announcement have already been entered into this.

The second raffle (the prize of which will be announced when we hit 151) will be for all pre-orders made after 151 and will span to the 200 mark.

The final will be for pre-orders 201 to 250.

Again, thanks for taking this journey with me. We are almost there. Please continue to spread the word.

          Rob

            Hey Everyone,

This past week was a great one for pre-orders. We are a few orders away from being 50 percent funded. Some of you even returned for a second or third copy. That’s encouraging. I know this book doesn’t fit neatly into one certain genre, so finding a dedicated audience is rough.

As I mentioned last week, Pixilated Obsidian Roses has been picked up by the Library of Alexandria collection. These guys have been great and have provided some fresh eyes to the project. Their input has been valuable. As a result of this input, there will be some changes to the project for the better.

Our biggest discussion concerned the title. For a while, I have been wondering if Pixilated Obsidian Roses was helping or hurting in generating pre-orders. Past feedback has been mixed. Some have told me that it was the uniqueness of the title that drew them. Others, while appreciating it, have expressed that it doesn’t seem to fit with the dark tone of the book. Obviously, as the author, I know the end of the story and how such a title fits in with the narrative. However, that doesn’t make it good for marketing.

With all this said, the title, Pixilated Obsidian Roses, will likely be changed. The new title will be announced later in the week, once it is decided. (I welcome any protestations from those of you who feel strongly about the current title.)

Secondly, for those of you who have yet to pre-order, we have some incentives.

            1. For all new pre-orders, Christopher Johnson is graciously offering a free copy of his book, Be Ye Therefore Wise as Serpents. (This offer will be available until we reach our current funding goal of 250 pre-orders)

            2. Starting today, June 18, everyone who makes a pre-order will be entered into a raffle to win a 25 dollar Amazon Gift Card. The drawing will be held once we hit 250 pre-orders. Keep in mind that your name will go in for EACH NEW PRE-ORDER MADE. So, if today you decide to order 5 copies, you have 5 chances to win.

Thanks again for all your support. It’s been a rough ride, but we’ll get there.

            Rob

Surviving abuse leaves no soul unscathed, and this is especially true of Ptielieren, an elite elvish bodyguard involuntarily integrated into an aversive-heavy culture. Strength can exist absent a ringing victory and weakness does not signify defeat.

              Hey Everyone,

Pixilated Obsidian Roses has been selected for the new Library of Alexandria collection. I’m thankful for the invite. We hope that with our combined efforts we can get the book to at least a Quill status (with all your support, of course). Here a part of what has been said by the collection lead:

"This is one of those rare books that speaks to the reader. The imagery R.F. Martin uses is poignant and provocative. The way he has created this creeping sense of dread throughout the chapters that are up is pervading. He has obviously spent the time to create a detailed and well thought out world for the characters, inventing back stories, interspersing memorabilia from their lives in a way that makes you forget it’s fiction. Chernosoren hovers around the edges of the main characters like those dark shadows that H.P. Lovecraft made famous - the feeling of some unknown sinister motive is present, but not overwhelming, preferring to sneak into you and wait for the moment to reveal itself. If the writing is any indication, the reveal won’t be some explosion of action or flurry of plot points, it will be insidious."

We also put up some new cover art.

Thanks to all of you who have supported the project.
