Robert Batten liked an excerpt from Borehole Bazaar: A Vow Unbroken
The distinction between meal, pet and slave was difficult to explain to resisting ears, but it was certainly there. She was a pet. She did not do menial labor, she was beloved, she was expected to have surly days and she was expected to be playful and fun to interact with. She had minimal rights as they would normally be expressed but she also had a great deal of power in certain situations. If she wanted to flirt with a sod, she certainly could. If she didn’t want to flirt the big bad bugbear would come to defend her. The den was home, its inhabitants family. It was not someplace to which she was tied but a place of warmth to remember and love when she was away.

Robert Batten created a forum thread: Non-public project behaviour
I wanted to check the behaviour regarding projects that "have not been made public yet."

I’ve hit this a couple of times when looking at the profiles of people who have followed me - I go to look at their own books only to receive the "this book has not been made public yet" message.  See below:

Looking at the writer’s profile I see a link to their draft book:
I click on the book to check it out and bounce to the home page with this banner message:

My question is:

If a book hasn’t been made public yet by the author, is it ok for it to show up in the authors list of books (is that desired behaviour)?

If the answer to (1) above is yes, then wouldn’t it be a better user experience to provide an indication on the author’s profile page that the book isn’t public and prevent the user from clicking on it in the first place?

Contacting bloggers that are familiar with your genre is also helpful. Sometimes they don’t contact back, but it’s better to "leave the bill at the door" than not try at all. I have gotten at least 1 purchase through a blog review, and 1 is better than none!

Good luck everyone!

Hi Chris, here are a few advice i think are useful:
Bare in mind these are all slow processes,  moving people you don’t know to sign up to a new platform is extremely hard... would u sign up to MovieShares.com to follow/buy your not so close friend’s new video? doubtful right ?....
    (1) Book forums - make sure to have a presence before launching your book. engage in conversations not related to your book, build a fan base there.
    (2) Inshares. follow other people’s projects, give them feedback. People are social animal, they will reciprocate and will be flattered you are seeking their advise. I would :)
    (3) second tier friends - started crowdfunding. make sure your loved ones and friends send it to their circles.. If you aunt has 30 close friends, odds are 5 of them will be book readers.

    hope this helps?

Robert Batten liked the forum thread, Wow, there's some seriously good stuff on here
I just finished looking at several samples people sent me,  and it wasn’t just that the writing was solid and gripping, but the imagination people have, the brilliant ideas, that are truly amazing.

Take 2 minutes to read the prologue of In Beta by Prescott Harvey, and let me know what you think. Do you agree?

Just highlight a bit of text, and a row of icons will appear. The last one is a box that looks like it has mountains and a sun in it; click that and it will give you the ability to upload a picture. It will drop the picture below the text you’ve highlighted.

        Hope that helps!

Robert Batten liked an update for Tantalus Depths

          Just a reminder:

As of now, we’re just shy of 50 pre-orders to get to this goal. 50 pre-orders in 6 days is hard, but it can be done.
I really want the opportunity to share this with you. If you haven’t placed your pre-order yet, now is a great time. If you already have, talk to a close friend or relative and ask if they’d like to pre-order a copy. Remember, this entire campaign depends on your support: I can’t do this without your help.

Robert Batten liked an update for Destiny Imperfect

            Greetings Destiny-followers,

Release the kraken! Awesome work, people! Thanks to all of you for getting behind this project. Right now Destiny Imperfect is tied for 2nd in the Inkshares/Nerdist contest and there’s less than a week left. Both the excellent In Beta and Destiny are currently at 162 pre-orders. It’d be fantastic if we could lock in 2nd place as, no doubt, In Beta has a kraken or two of its own to release.

So where does this put us? Destiny now has over 200+ followers (thanks very much!) and many of you have already placed a pre-order. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, it’d be great if you could take a look at chapter one of Destiny Imperfect and see if it’s something you could support. The bigger the crowd we get into the crowdfunding, the stronger Destiny will be!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

            Cheers,

            Peter
