Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Rise

So, in a previous update, I mentioned the upcoming Blood Dawn promotional event, Blood Dawn Risk, to help boost John Robin’s project in its final days of support before the year long funding period ends.  At the time, I hadn’t been told if I could start garnering actual orders to raise support of my dragon, Branakataurai, in the battle as it unfolds.  I know have been given the go ahead.

So, here’s the deal.  Please go to this page and preorder a copy.  Be sure to let me know if you did.  Why?  Well, as an added incentive, I’ve got three games on Steam I’m giving away to the first three people who do so and let me know they did.  I need to know so I can make sure John Robin knows who is supporting which dragon in the battle!  What games am I giving away, you ask?  So glad you did.  Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (one of the best in the Star Wars video game legacy), Star Wars Dark Forces (I played the crap out of this in college; such nostalgia over this one), and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (a sequel to the previous game made several years later).  First one in gets their choice of the three!  Why am I giving away these games?  Well, for one, I already own all of them!  Shows you right there what I think of them.  But, in truth, I supported a charity by purchasing a bunch of games through a vendor that donates to them.  Some of you may be familiar with them, Humble Bundle.  These games were in the package so in a way, you’re helping support charity.  Or you’re reaping the benefits of me doing so.  Whichever works for you.  But you have to order Mr. Robin’s book first!

What are you still doing here?  Go get his book pre-ordered!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for LOUISIANA BLOOD - A Chandler Travis and Duke  Lanoix mystery

WOW! Thank you all so much guys and gals!  My inbox just blew up!  Whether it was the movie tie in or the latest chapters I posted I don’t know, but I’ve gone from zero to 120 followers in a month and broken 100 pre-orders…I can almost feel the feathery touch of Quill publishing on my cheek!

Again thank you all for your massive support. As the old comic once said, “I wear it constantly.” But seriously I’m immensely grateful and shocked at the interest in my genre mash-up story.  I’d like to personally thank Peter Ryan author of SYNC CITY for his support, and if any of you are into gritty sci-fi thriller with a great lead character check it out!  For those of you that recently pre-ordered my book you will have already received the original screenplay of LOUISIANA BLOOD and I hope you enjoy it.

For those of you wanting a copy of the screenplay please pre order HERE as only one hundred of these screenplays will be released.

One of the reasons Louisiana Blood seems to spark so much interest is its quirky mix of a love story spanning the centuries, horror, conspiracy, action and mystery thriller within a re-imagined Jack The Ripper historical framework.

So to whet your appetites and to satisfy my curiosity I’m going to post an extract below which is in the horror genre part of the story. If those of you who favour the horror genre would like to pre-order, or just like the post that would give me a heads up on the overall theme of my supporters.  I will then do the same with excerpts from the Love, Thriller, Mystery, Conspiracy and Action parts of the story…looking forwards to this experiment.

Okay here we go, coming up is a horror scene as the characters discuss a possible theory to explain how the hell five of the original victims of Jack The Ripper ended up in a Louisiana swamp five years after they were murdered in Victorian London!  We dip into the action as two of the Ripper suspects are stage managing one of their victims for release into polite society…it ain’t pretty! (Ghoulish laughter off stage.)

     LONDON - 1888

“It would need organisation, money and power to mobilise the necessary pieces of the conspiracy”.

A tearful couple stand next to a slab, on which lies a shape draped in a blood stained sheet. The mortuary assistant pulls back the sheet revealing the pale face of the Ripper’s first Victim: Mary Anne Nicols. The couple nod. The sheet is pulled back over and the couple leave. The shape under the sheet sits up. Mary Ann Nicols is helped off the gurney.

She uses a cloth to rub pale makeup from her face as she’s led out.

“A few willing female corpses...not a problem with the amount of unethical and experimental surgery that went on in those days.”

Dr. Tumblety operates on a female patient in a Victorian lecture theatre. Outside a hospital a Policeman watches as a woman’s dead body is loaded into a carriage.

“They’d get somebody to do a slice and dice number on them to sensationalise the whole thing...”

A BLACK carriage stands in a pale shaft of moonlight. Nervous horses vent steam from their nostrils into the freezing night air.

“Somebody who enjoys their work, and who they have a hold over...someone who won’t talk...”

Inside the dark velvet womb of the carriage somebody hacks at a body...blood is everywhere. A sharp surgeons knife glints in the dark. Organs spill across white flesh. In a deserted London side street, a bloodstained body is dumped by the side of the road from the carriage. The carriage clatters off down the street and disappears. A police whistle sounds...an officer appears, a passersby stares at the corpse.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for A God in the Shed

      Greetings friends!

My first book with Inkshares, The Life Engineered is released. I still have a lot of promotional work to do with it to keep the spotlight on it, but as far as the heavy lifting is concerned, we are done. Time to focus on the next thing and the next thing is A God in the Shed.

As of this writing, we are 271 orders away from getting published. We have 44 days to get these orders. You’re following this book so I know there’s a good chance you want to see it published. This is why, as of this moment, you are my army.

Starting today, we are going to campaign to get A God in the Shed to 750 pre-orders. Here’s what I have in mind for myself:

      • I’m looking for places where I can talk about A God in the Shed. Podcasts, blogs, events, anything. I’ve got a few things lined up but I’m open to more options if you have them.
      • I will be revamping some of the things you see on the project page to add more content for you and to generate interest.
      • I will be investing in some strategic ads with content creators whom I enjoy and support to hopefully create a dialogue with their audience.
      • I will be mobilizing some of my more militant supporters into pushing A God in the Shed as much as possible. If that’s you, let me know.
What do I expect from you? Very little, yet so very much.

I need you to find one other person and personally guide them into pre-ordering A God in the Shed. It’s simple because who can’t find one friend who likes Fantasy/Horror and likes to support independent authors? It’s difficult because I’m putting the responsibility on you to ask, guide and follow up with them. If even half of you manage to do this, we’ll be in good shape to get published.

Sounds good? What’s in it for you?

      1. If the book gets published and you ordered at the Deity level, you get your name in the book as a Patron.
      2. If you use a referral through the ’Recommend Via’ buttons at the top of the page, you get Inkshares credits that you can put towards other books.
      3. For each book you pre-order, you will get an entry into a random draw. For every successful recommendation, you will get another entry into this raffle. The winner of this raffle will have his name and likeness included in the book as a minor character that gets tragically murdered.
      4. You get to be on the ground floor of a trilogy that will, I hope, be pretty damn awesome.
I’ll be sending occasional reminders and updates on the progress we’re making. You guys have been awesome with me so far and it seems greedy to ask for more, but the sooner I can stop promoting, the sooner I can get back to writing and I think that’s best for everyone.

Go forth my army! Let’s get things published!

      Also; thanks. You’re all awesome.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside

Readers! Great news. Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside has been selected as a finalist in Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards. I’m pretty excited, as this is the first competition I’ve heard back from. A panel of over 130 librarians and booksellers will determine the winners and announce them in June, so this should give the book a little bump in exposure. It would be awesome if you could help me spread the word!

I’ll be giving a reading at the Boston Public Library on Thursday, April 7th, at 6pm. I’d love to see you there if you’re around—feel free to invite friends. Copies of the book are available at Brookline Booksmith and Harvard Book Store if you know anyone who’d be interested in checking it out beforehand.

I’m almost at 50 reviews on Goodreads and Amazon. If you’ve read the novel but yet to post a review, please consider doing so? Thanks! Really appreciate your continued support.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for ENHANCED

We know, we know -- we never call, we never write anymore. Well, that last part isn’t true, we’re still writing, we just haven’t been sending you updates. So here’s what’s up:

ENHANCED has received some very positive professional feedback through a couple other contests we’ve entered where the judging is based on the quality of writing and not on how relentlessly the author pushes their friends and family and total strangers to pre-order it.

There are still a few contests we’re waiting to hear the results of, most notably the Book Pipeline Contest that’s looking for new authors’ works that would adapt easily to film or television. We should find out if ENHANCED has risen to the Semi-finalist level mid-March, AND they include a page of professional feedback for each submission.

We’re also waiting to hear from Her Universe Press -- well worth investigating, especially for female scifi authors! Plus, they promise to respond to every submission whether they choose to publish the work or not.

We’re finally happy with our Query letter and the devilishly tricky 1 page Synopsis. We have a polished -- but we’re not claiming perfect -- manuscript that’s ready for an agent’s love.

So that’s where we are, sending our baby out into the world, to eventually take an honored place in the hearts of millions of readers.

We hope one of them some of them will be yours.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Disintegration

Hi, everyone. It’s been a nice little stretch, lately. Disintegration is only seven copies away from 400!

Many thanks to those recent purchasers (and, of course, to all of you who have already supported my book). Some of the recent orders have come from authors participating in the current Nerdist Space Opera contest!

Be sure to check out The Life Interstellar (if you remember Verhoeven’s RoboCop, you’ll love the narrative voice of this story. Zack Jordan is doing a great job with world-building. Follow his book and be entertained by his updates!), The Traveller’s Cup (I love the premise of this story: it has a bit of a Hunger Games feel, but the scope is much grander and it involves SPACE DRAGONS!), Infinity Mind (its plot is reminiscent of Philip K. Dick’s "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale". Mars. Brainwashing. But ... Assassins!) and Champions of the Third Planet (this book is the contest leader. In this tale, five kids band together to save Earth from a faraway threat).

Please, if you haven’t yet ordered a copy of Disintegration, do so now. Help me reach another milestone in my quest to be a fully funded Inkshares author, with all the rights and privileges that affords (Fame! Fortune! Or, at least, royalty checks and rigorous editing!).

Support art and artists! Support independent authors (me! the people I mentioned above!) and publishing companies (Inkshares!).

            That is all. :)
