Robert Batten liked the forum thread, where do you have trouble
So I made this curious to see what people have trouble with while they are writing. I’m sure we all have something that just catches us and we get stuck on. For me personally its names I’m going great then i have to name a character or place and everything comes to a grinding halt. I stress so much about finding the perfect name I get frustrated and it takes me a while to get past.

So was just wondering what other people get stuck on and what helps you get past it.

They really have a crapload of stuff they’re working on right now behind the scenes just keeping the site running. They’re a small company in the midst of a bunch of major staffing changes, and dealing with a bunch of really critical issues like credit abuse and credit card fraud. They have, in short, way bigger things to worry about right now.
I’m sure they appreciate the feedback and will take it to heart, but it’s kind of rude to be so bossy and demanding about it.
I, for one, have never found the forums hard to locate or navigate, have never had issues tagging people when I needed to, or felt like the forum categories are inadequate. This seems mostly like matters of personal taste to me.

I’ve just uploaded what I suppose must be a crowd-funding video for ’Traakenholt’. I have borrowed strongly from my corporate sales presentation techniques. If anyone would like to give me some feedback, I am always looking to learn and grow.

Robert Batten liked an update for Seven Days a Servant

Yesterday, I posted about how to earn the Seven Days a Servant: The Cliffhanger Beta! However, there has been some confusion about the second step - the Inkshares Recommend Button - so I’ve created a handy visual guide to getting your copy of the Cliffhanger Beta!

Here are both steps for completionists out there:

          1. Pre-order Seven Days a Servant in any format.

          2. Recommend the book using the “Inkshares” Recommend button on this page: https://www.inkshares.com/books/seven-days-a-servant

          Click this button:

Fill in this blurb and press "Recommend":

You will know it worked if you can mouse over a portrait and see your quote:

While all the other recommend buttons are certainly appreciated. Only those that use the Inkshares recommend button will be signed up for getting the Cliffhanger Beta.

          Cheers,

          Trick Dempsey

Robert Batten liked the forum thread, How many here are unpublished vs. published?
I’ve never been published anywhere yet actually. The old rule of thumb is you are never published until it’s finally done :).

I’ve also never tried anywhere else honestly. I came for the contest, entered, did well, and now here I am. I think crowd funding has been vastly helpful in shaping my views about the amount of work involved and really made me pay attention to a lot of other details I would of otherwise missed.

That said, in a very short time, less than a year, I’ve got the potential now to be published in three separate bodies of work... it’s all potential. I’m excited about the next few months to come, and also because I’ve to keep the ball rolling and write my next draft.

Robert Batten liked an update for The Living God

              Hey guys!

I got a lot of work done over the weekend on character illustrations. I thought I’d share a few with you and give you an update on the campaign.

We’ve dropped from 4th to 6th in the contest and could really use a bump to get back near the Top 3. However, let’s take a moment to acknowledge that there are now over 300 books in the contest and we are #6 on the leaderboard! Regardless of how this turns out in November, I’m going to be proud and I have you guys to thank for that. Still, there are two months left in the contest, so let’s see if we can’t make it into the Top 3? On the plus side, we are 128 away from making Quill, should the contest fall through. But, let’s keep pushing!

If you haven’t already, please leave a review for The Living God or recommend it on Inkshares and your social media. I’m leaving this handy dandy link right here in your update for easy access to leaving a review. You don’t have to go hunting for that pesky button. Just click right here: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-living-god/reviews/new

A few things have changed on The Living God page. If you’ve visited recently, you might have noticed. Aside from the (still not official) video, we now have incentives! If you have already placed your pre-order and qualify for one or all of them, have no fear! You’ll be getting that cool swag!

Last but not least, your peek at the character illustrations I worked on over the weekend. These guys are going up on the website along with a host of other ones when I complete them. But, for right now, here is your glimpse at Keleir, Saran, and Rowe. I’ve got a lot to learn about illustrating hair, it is not my forte, but I’m still pretty happy with how they turned out.

Another cool piece of information about Saran, which some might have noticed, is that we are both redheads. I’ve written countless manuscripts, I have this series and another series I’ve worked on, but Saran is my only red-headed character. Growing up, I got picked on a whole lot for having red hair, as some other redheads can probably attest to. I decided that at least one of my characters would have red hair, as a sort of tribute to all those lovely gingers out there who are told they aren’t pretty or are called names for their unique tresses. Saran is sort of the fulfilled promise made to my thirteen-year-old self so long ago.

Sorry for the long-ish update. I try and do one a week, so not to bug you too much.

Thank you guys for the help! I can’t express how much I appreciate it.

Robert Batten liked an update for A Beast Requires

                And it’s Monday.

Last week A Beast Requires broke 100 pre-orders! That’s right, 80 amazing, wonderful backers have pre-ordered 102 copies of my book! My deepest and sincerest thanks goes out to all of you who have backed me so far.

Still on the fence? With September on the horizon, now is definitely the time to check out all the bonus content I’ve uploaded to the campaign site. I have another video planned for later on this week, so be sure to stay tuned for that.

So, I have a couple things. About twenty of them, give or take a prologue. The first twenty chapters have been edited to a point where I feel comfortable sending them out for reader feedback. If you’ve back the book, and are interested in seeing where the story goes and are willing to provide feedback, shoot me a message.

Thank you all again. Y’all really are the best.

                - Jay
