Thomas Booker highlighted an excerpt from The Sleeping Man
He circled his physical form, frowning at the image which had inspired the latest of names given to him, The Sleeping Man. He would not say his true name. There was no language able to hold the concept.

Thomas Booker sent an update for The Game

Hi,

So, ’The Game’ is now taking pre-orders, which is very exciting! However, I wanted to take a moment to explain the longer funding phase.

I’ve gone for 120 days because the book is in an earlier state then many of the others available for pre-order. This is because it has been entered as part of the current Nerdist Video Game Stories competition and I thought that if I didn’t open it up for pre-orders soon it would stand no chance of making the top three. The competition is fierce, to say the least, and there are a number of fantastic books already doing very well; many of which I hope to be able to support myself. Nevertheless, I think The Game is good enough to be up there with best and so I’m giving it a fighting chance.

That all said, I can be a bit of a realist and there is a chance that it won’t make top three in the competition. With that in mind, I wanted to give myself a bit longer to develop the book throughout the funding period. Work and life permitting I believe the 120 days should allow me to complete the majority of the book by time the funding period closes. Assuming the book manages to make the 250 mark or, fingers crossed, the full 750 mark this will mean people who have ordered don’t have to wait too much longer for me to finish the book and for Inkshares to do their thing.

I’m still working on plans for the rewards that get released when certain marks are met but I think this update is long enough so I’ll save that for a future one. Anyway, thanks for following the book, I hope you like it and I hope you’ll be able to support it.

Right, it’s been a while since the last update and that’s almost entirely because I’ve been working hard on the book (with a few bits of life thrown in for variety). I’ve now uploaded the prologue and a temporary book cover. I played around with a few versions of the prologue. In the end, the one I’ve gone for I think has a nice hook without being too long and adds some interesting context to the story which comes out through the rest of the book. As always I’d be grateful for any feedback you may have.

Work is now moving on to Chapters Two and Three although I am first going to review the overall structure because in writing the various versions of the prologue I think there are some improvements which could be made in terms of character and plot development.

I also wanted to let you know that the book will soon be available for pre-order so if you find you enjoy what I’ve written please do put an order in, tell your friends etc.
