Heart attacks, car wrecks, suicides, overdoses, gunshot wounds and broken penises... some paramedics have the worst luck. We call them black clouds.

Hello Ladies and Gents!

Let me first say thank you. Thank you for following Monkey Business. I cannot tell you how much it has meant to me that over 400 people elected to follow this book. My first book. I love those silly little monkeys and I always will. The same goes for all of you.

But if we could look to the future for a moment, I would like to introduce my new book.

Obviously it’s called Black Cloud. It follows a paramedic and his partner through eight very intense days in their lives. Let me be upfront, this book is not Monkey Business. While it is often funny, it’s also cynical, dark, gritty and heart-breaking. I think it’s a pretty honest look into the experiences and perceptions of many of us who work in emergency medicine. Also there is a lot of cursing. I mean a lot. Just be forewarned.

Currently it’s in the draft stage. It is my goal at this point to gather followers. This book has been entered in the Inkshares/Scott Free Launchpad Competition. That means if it were to make it into the top 25 the book will be in a funding contest beginning on October 4th. If it doesn’t make it into that contest I plan to run a funding campaign within in next couple months anyway.

So please click one of these links and follow this project and if you have a few minutes, read the first chapter. You might get a kick out of it.

Oh and while I’m invading your inbox, let me just put this here:

Monkey Business is doing pretty well on good old Amazon today so if you haven’t picked up a copy yet, go ahead and grab one for $0.99. Tell your friends, tell your lovers, tell your baristas and bartenders. If you’ve already bought a copy, mosey on over and leave a review. I’m certainly not at 100 reviews yet but 52 is pretty good!

Thank you all for everything you do and everything you are. You beautiful, book-loving bastards.

- Landon

    Hello lovely readers!!

Exciting news! Our syndicate (Break the Bechdel with Strong Female Characters found here: https://www.inkshares.com/syndicates/break-the-bechdel-with-strong-female-characters ) just surpassed the CEO Syndicate in highest number of members! So lucky to have found such amazing people who are intelligent, respectful and passionate about increasing the number of strong/fully-realized female characters in this world. If you haven’t joined yet, please check it out. The discussions alone are worth it =)

More updates to come soon...including the rough artwork of the new cover for The Talkers are Talking.

      Hey Everyone!

Happy Labor Day weekend.  In celebration, we’re once again running the CHARACTER NAME CONTEST.  If we get to 150 preorders by MIDNIGHT MONDAY, then one of the lucky people who orders the book between now and that time will become a character in BLUE WATER.  If you’ve already purchased BLUE WATER, and you refer someone who does buy the book, your name is in the running as well!  If you purchase three copies, your name is in the running three times.

Our last CHARACTER NAME CONTEST winner, Annie Boehnen, is featured in three chapters of BLUE WATER. Do you want to join her in the story?

In other news, in case you missed our last update, the deadline to hit at least 250 orders is now November 14, 2016.  We were granted an extension by the nice people at Inkshares, and are very thankful.

Also, another quick note: I’ve previously released the first three chapters at our website, bluewaternovel.com . I’ve rewritten Chapter 3 now, and the new version is now included in the download section at the website.  If you read the previous version, check out this newer version and let me know what you think!

As of writing this, we have 54 hours left to get EIGHT MORE preorders.  If you haven’t ordered BLUE WATER yet, what are you waiting for?  If you have, send every friend you have and get YOUR NAME IN THE BOOK!

      Thanks everyone,
      Joseph

You guys may have noticed it’s been a little quiet here. There’s a reason, and it’s a long one, so I’ll sum it up before I get to the good stuff.

First, all cards on the table: running a crowdfunding campaign is exhausting. Emotionally, it’s draining. You have a day where you crush it and you feel on top of the world. Then there are days, weeks, where nothing happens, and you wonder who you thought you were to even attempt something so ridiculous. We came out of the gate firing, and then I faded away. I feel like I owe you all an explanation as to why.

Here’s the deal. Inkshares is in the middle of a leadership change, and the restructuring shook things up. I wasn’t sure if Inkshares was necessarily the right way to go in publishing Blue Water. And in the last few weeks, while the campaign sat stagnant, I started looking into self publishing, and any other options I could find so I could make an informed decision about what to do next.

        The campaign suffered for it.

After a bit of soul searching, and a pep talk from another amazing Inkshares author to which I owe SO much for her support, (please, check out Amanda Orneck’s book “Deus Hex Machina,” currently available to pre-order on Inkshares. Unlike Blue Water, there’s no gamble here. Her book has crossed that finish line), I have decided to attack this Inkshares thing with all I have. I need this book to be in your hands. You all have helped me get this far. I’m not changing direction at this point.

So, with that in mind, I contacted Inkshares to explain the situation, and was granted an extension.

The new deadline for us to cross the finish line, be it 750 or 250, is now November 14, 2016. That’s our new target, and wouldn’t you know it, that’s also my daughter’s third birthday.

Now we’re have 110 preorders to get, and we have 77 days left. That gives us a perfectly round number progress chart. Ten a week. 150 by next Monday, 160 by the Monday after that... if we stay at exactly that, order 250 comes in on day zero. So let’s stay above that. For safety’s sake. We’ve pulled off twenty in a day before. I’m quite optimistic about our chances.

This now has my full attention, like it did during the first four weeks when we got halfway there. We’ve got a lot of fun stuff planned on this campaign. Things I’m very excited to show you. If you guys can keep fighting for this book, keep spreading the word around, keep telling your friends to buy this novel, I promise we can get there.

        More to come shortly.

Thank you all for hanging in there with me.

If you haven’t preordered Blue Water yet, click the button to purchase it now.

        Here we go.
