Donna Litt liked an update for Shadow King

Hello from snowy Boston!

The clock is really ticking down...

Believe it or not, my funding window is down to hours and not weeks -- Feb. 15 is the last day. I’m happy to report a few more orders have come in, but I still need a little over 30 more orders to hit my mid-range goal of 300 pre-orders (and of course, hitting the full 750 would be amazing!).

So, if you’re still thinking about ordering but haven’t yet, now is the time (and you get the discounted pre-order price)! I have to say, getting those orders would be one AWESOME Valentine’s Day gift!

You can order on my Inkshares page: www.inkshares.com/books/shadow-king

As always, thanks so much for your support and interest--I’ll send another update once the funding window closes and let you know where everything stands.

Best,

Susan

Donna Litt liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

    Greetings hexers,

It’s been a while since I pinged you all and I thought I’d give a quick update on what is happening in my neck of the words (pun intended).

Firstly I just finished the first draft of a fantasy short story entitled "Aebrin’s Song". I’m letting it percolate for a few weeks before I head into editing. Meanwhile I have begun the planning phase of the sequel to Deus Hex Machina. The first step was to come up with ideas for a title, After much deliberation and a ton of help from friends, I’m happy to announce that the title to the second book in the series will be:

Planning a book is an exhilarating experience, and I am incredibly happy to get a chance to apply all I’ve learned in the last year to this new chapter in Isidore RAM’s life. If you are as excited as I am about this book, feel free to follow it here on Inkshares. I’ve got some character profiles up and will be adding more info as I go.

On the DHM front, I am still waiting for word from Inkshares on when production will start. Once I have more information I’ll let you know.

    Have a great Tuesday and

    may the code replicate eternal

Donna Litt liked an update for The Seventh Age: Dawn

Greetings everyone! It’s time for some quick... seriously bad-ass news.

Okay; maybe not that bad-ass. It’s actually just an actual booth number for Emerald City Comic Con next week.

        DD11.

So if you live in Seattle and want to meet up or happen to attend the con. Let me know. Metal and Drinks will commence.

In other things. Reviews. The book has only come out a month ago from now, but in order for Amazon (or the internet) to functionally count it as an ACTUAL book... I’ve got to hit a certain threshold of reviews. (That’s 100 for those who count. I’ve got 10...) Even if you hated the book, that’s okay. Just... if you support the IDEA of authors writing books... take 5 minutes and leave a review on one of these platforms:

Audbile (For you Audio blokes out there): Click HERE

Amazon (For those who wish to feed into the belly of the beast): Click HERE

Goodreads (For those who are cunning enough to copy and paste a review from Amazon): Click HERE

As always, you can follow me or find me on Twitter @CrankyBolt and I’ll have additional written content for everyone in a few months. I’ve already got a short story about Akira done, but I’m waiting till more people finish the book before I get there.

Do you guys think I should try a video update? Let me know.

        ~Rick.

Wanted to start this as maybe a resource for writers looking for external resources. I know Inkshares does a lot of great stuff but some people may need or want other resources to help with their books: editors, artists, etc.

So I wanted to put it out there... have you worked with folks who you would recommend?

I’ll start with one -- Kellie Morin-Araujo is a great editing/proofreading resource, and you can reach her at editedbykellie

(okay for some reason, the email isn’t coming through -- it is editedbykellie "at" gmail . com)

One person I pay a lot of attention to is Donald Maass, from Donald Maass Literary Agency. He’s written several books and frequently contributes articles to Writer Unboxed and other groups, but I think my go-to book from him right now is The Breakout Novelist. That book is a quasi-compilation of much of Maass’s earlier works and is written to be a sort-of story doctor for when you get stuck or jammed in a novel.

One thing I find particularly useful about the book is the extensive series of exercises. I’m not always a big fan of exercises in books on writing, but the intent of a lot of Maass’s exercises is to get you to think deeper about the major parts of the story, characters, plot, theme, setting etc. as opposed to ‘write two paragraphs on x.’

Having had a chance to go through a developmental edit with Girl Friday Productions as well, many of the exercises are directly relatable to issues that my developmental editor mentioned, like the nine-tenths of character details and timeline issues that probably don’t even make it directly into the novel, but which are important to know since they can be obliquely referenced to give added depth. Aside from reading the book, the worksheets and all the exercises are freely available through Writer’s Digest at http://www.writersdigest.com/writing-articles/by-writing-goal/improve-my-writing/breakout-worksheets.

I’ve gone through a couple of other books by Maass as well (currently enjoying The Emotional Craft of Fiction) but I’d have to say that The Breakout Novelist is my favorite so far.

Donna Litt liked an update for A Tale of Ghosts and Guardians

                Ghosts and Guardians!

It has been too long! I took a much needed break and now, as promised, I am back. I am gearing up for another go at funding A Tale of Ghosts and Guardians, but before I ask for preorders, I am going to ask you to help me create some buzz. I need recommendations, comments, and likes on my Inkshares page (feel free to check out A Tale of Beasts and Brothers too!). That is the most important right now: your words about my words.

After that, I need followers, here at Inkshares, on Facebook, and over on Twitter (and Tumblr if you are so inclined) so please invite your friends and connections to follow all of those things.

When the campaign launches, you all will be the first to know. If you were unable to get your preorder in last time, be sure to set your money aside now.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need continue training for a successful campaign...
