Angela Melamud liked an update for The Body of Chris

Hey Everybody! I hope this message finds you well. I want to share my latest piece for the International Bipolar Foundation, which covers some of the theoretical influences behind The Body of Chris. There are no real "answers" offered in my book (largely intentional), but this article might provide good direction for those interested in further exploration.

"With bipolar disorder, particularly manic psychosis, there are often peak experiences of undeniable spiritual profundity, but the extent to which those insights are integrated will ultimately be the measure of their usefulness."

You can read the full article here: http://ibpf.org/blog/bipolar-order-discovering-spiritual-integration-through-transpersonal-psychology

I remain tremendously grateful for your support and the opportunities afforded through this chance to tell my story. If you know someone who may benefit, please forward this email to them.

Best regards,

Chris

Angela Melamud liked an update for Sorcery for Beginners

    Friends, Readers, and Sorcerers All,

It’s been a couple weeks since our last update, but for good reason: Sorcery for Beginners has finally been shipped to the copy editor! For all intents and purposes, the last draft of the book has been completed. There may be some small final tweaks, but my last major pass on the story went out last Wednesday.

I have to be honest, it’s a bit weird. I’ve been working on this novel off and on for four years, so to hit a point where there can be no more changes and tweaks feels odd. I feel good about the book, and I think it improved a lot in the last month, but there is still some George Lucas-y part of me that wonders if I should go back and make more tweaks. Maybe add some more people screaming "Nooooooo!" (Kidding.)

Juliane is hard at work on the illustrations, Kevin is working on the layout, and we’re discussing ideas for the back cover art. Very soon all the creative work on Sorcery for Beginners will be all finished, then we have to sit back and wait for the orders to come in.

But before that, I wanted to introduce you to Euphemia Whitmore. Whitmore is the mysterious, intelligent figure who owns the Codex Arcanum, and sells Owen his copy of Sorcery for Beginners. She is also the author of the original edition, which was deemed too esoteric to understand, so Juliane and I were brought in to make it more of a novel. I’d like to say it was a fun experience working with her, but it was not. She is extremely demanding and condescending toward anyone who can’t cast spells at her level. (Which is pretty much everyone.)

Still, I’m grateful to her for letting us help tell her story. I only hope she doesn’t magically erase our memories to prevent us from saying anything about the Codex Arcanum.

If you haven’t done so already, please add us to your Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble, and other favorite bookstore wish lists. It encourages them to order more books. Thanks again for all your support!

Angela Melamud liked an update for APEX

      Dear Readers,

I had my first phone call with my editor, and I’m inspired to dive in and keep things rolling. I have a major edit in front of me,but I’ve made it through about a third of the manuscript adding my initial thoughts on how to tweak and revise the story. I’ll finish that within the week, and then I’ll start the writing, which should go quickly as I’ll know the path.

I’ve been nominated as this month’s pick for the Rites of Passage syndicate, and I’m truly honored. If you’re a member of that syndicate (and if you’re not, you should join), please take a look at my updated book page and revised Prologue, as well as the awesome video trailer by Christopher Lee, and consider voting for me. I’d be thrilled to have your support and the publicity that winning would bring to my first novel, APEX.

      Cheers, Debbie

        Dear Authors,

We are no longer offering signed copies as part of the incentive package for pre-ordering a book. As our author base has expanded globally, it has become logistically impractical to offer this option.  In many cases, it makes it much more difficult to get books to backers prior to the publication date.

What does this mean for books currently in production? For both Inkshares and Quill, we are going to work with the author to find a solution that works best for them and their backers. In some cases, a signed book option will still be practical; in other cases, it might make more sense to have a signed insert like a bookmark or print. Of course, where backers don’t wish to have an unsigned book, we will refund their order.

We value our authors and readers dearly and regret any frustration that this may have caused.

        Best,
