The Veterans’ Club was on King Street: a clean, respectable facade set between other clean, respectable facades; a narrow alley slipped in on one side, lancing into the dark inner workings between it and its neighbour.
I love this opening description! It really tells us a lot about the Club and the people inside it, or at least I imagine it does.

It might be useful to think of genres as tags instead of boxes.
THE PHANTOM FOREST is an impressive debut from writer Liz Kerin. It is a wholly original, beautifully written fantasy novel that reminded me of A WRINKLE IN TIME with added elements of the YA dystopian craze that has swept through publishing over the last few years. What sets it apart from others in its genre, however, is its deep meditations on life, death, spirituality and what it means to be human. This book deserves to make it out into the world and readers' hands - do whatever you can to read it!

I've only read the prologue and the first chapter, but I've already pre-ordered the rest. It really is that good. Comparisons to Douglas Adams' surreal absurdities are accurate. A Beast Requires thrums with bombastic vibrancy, uproarious descriptions and apathetic livestock seeming to bounce from the pages. You can almost smell the effluent seeping from the cracks of the madhouse of Aurum. This is a book to keep both eyes on. Highly recommended.

I´m also an advocate of multiple genre posting. My own work can´t really be classified with one word, given it´s nature as a mix between alternate historical fiction with a twinge of dark fantasy thrown in between. Inkshares is a wonderful platform for all sorts of playful compositions, so here´s hoping we get some more tools to help refine our craft! Keep up the good work, Inkshares team!
Hello out there! I’ve uploaded Chapter Two, in which we meet Kelly’s mildly insane (whose isn’t?) family, and learn of her need for a plus one at her sister’s fast-approaching wedding. If you give it a read, please let me know your thoughts!
