Fast-paced, complex and highly original, Christopher Lee's ambitious novel weaves European faery lore and ancient Mesopotamian mythology, setting Adam's rebellion in Eden against a backdrop of far more ancient dynastic conflict, in which mankind is only the latest in a long line of usurpers. Lee spins his tale in tight, clear prose, enriched by intricate worldbuilding and a deep love for character development.

The Banalfolk is a blanket term for the non-magical remnants of mankind that dwell within the realm of Tír na nÓg. There are many settlements from the massive city of Sirothell with its gargantuan port, the IronWood Clans in the Vale, the Senarran Beast Riders of the Great Expanse, the farming communities of Freehold, Waver’s Harbor, the list of human populated settlements goes on.

They are the most populous race within the realm of Tír na nÓg. Due to their inability to wield the gifts of the Goddess, their prosperity depends solely on their mastery of technological advancements. Without wings, they build airships. Without stone songs, they use picks and axes to mine metal. The seat of their power resides in Sirothell.

Sirothell, City of Broken Bones, is the seat of House Basilisk, a puppet branch of the Fomorian King in Formene. As the remnant of the capital city of the Old Empire before the first rebellion of man, it still remains important to the human inhabitants of the sprawling slums. Though many other races do business in Sirothell, due to its location and extensive ports, the city is the only sizable human settlement left standing after the third rebellion of man.

The city is comprised of Viscount’s Manor at the center which is surrounded by a great many slums including Beggar’s Run and Pauper’s Alley.
