Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Illegal

I’m sorry to say that I am withdrawing my book from Inkshares. I will be forever thankful to all the people that supported me along the way. It is a great disappointment that so many people worked alongside me to help us get those 750 orders and to now have to walk away. I will try to make this up to all of you. It was a tough decision to make but I’ve lost all faith and trust in the company and think walking away is the best option. An except from a strongly worded email I sent to the CEO yesterday:

For you to say that all credit orders are invalid is completely unacceptable, and I think this is what our problem comes down to--you don’t see an issue there. You should. Among those credit orders was your predecessor at CEO. If that’s not a mark of approval for using credits, I don’t know what is. To say you decided you don’t like the system anymore does not invalidate what happened previous. The company explicitly promoted credits to users for a long time, to pretend like that didn’t happen because it suits your current interests is wrong and you should know that. It sounds like this is what this all comes down to, for Inkshares to publish my book I must concede this point. I won’t.

I don’t know what I’ll do now. It’s been a very frustrating experience these last few months to say the least and the prospect of starting back at square one is daunting, but Illegal will be published and hopefully soon. This week I’ve been working on another round of editing and I’m happy with the progress I’ve gotten there. I’ve created a simple page for anyone to follow the project here. I’ve also written up my experiences with Inkshares here and invite other authors/ readers to comment freely.

This will be my last message from Inkshares. Thank you again, everyone. I’m sorry it didn’t turn out the way we expected but I’ll do my best to make it right with all the wonderful people that supported me.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Last Faoii

    Updates, Faoii!

I promised you all you’d get an audio version of Chapter 3 if we got 275 pre-orders. One day later and BOOM! We’re there. So, here you go, as promised:

    Chapter 3 (Audio) On Youtube

Now, if you’ve been paying attention to The Last Faoii for a long time, then you probably know that those first 3 chapters were all written in one night after a muse whispered to me in my sleep and inspired me to create something amazing. They’ve been edited more times than I can count, now, but the core of the story and the world are still in those first three chapters. They were the beginning, the spark that ignited The Last Faoii and I always wanted them to be available to anyone who might be interested. I’m glad to finally be able to provide you with audio versions of those first three chapters, as well.

Now that the beginning of the story is available in different formats, you’ll have to work a little bit harder to get new material. If you want to see Chapter 4, I need 10 new pre-orders. 10. Get us to 185 and I’ll put it up. Not difficult, right? Well, not for faoii anyway.

I’ll see you when we have more warriors on the field.

    -Faoii-Tahani

      2. 21 Pre-Orders Needed for Guaranteed Publication!
      3. Toys For Tots = 8 Days Left...
      4. Next Up?

      1.) SnarkyDarkSy

I’m so humbled. A syndicate on Inkshares, SnarkyDarkSy just backed Kingdom of Dreams! What’s a syndicate, why is that a big deal? A syndicate is a collection of kind humans made up of readers and usually fellow writers that form a group based on their mutual tastes. They vote monthly on which Inkshares project they feel is worthy enough to be published, then pool their own hard earned money together as a collective to support its publication. There are literally hundreds of projects to choose from. To be chosen is an honor, to be chosen by my fellow like-minded and very talented writers-I’m speechless. All I can say is a gracious thank you. Please visit their page on Inkshares and see their selections here. See you soon Snarky’s!

      2.) 21 Pre-Orders Needed for Guaranteed Publication!

With that syndicate selection and just over a dozen new orders, we now are 21 orders away from guaranteed publication! Thanks again to my new backers and double-dippers, you are making this wild dream of ours into reality day by day!

3.) Toys For Tots = 8 Days Left...

So with this small flurry of pre-orders, we are building a healthy donation to give to Toys For Tots on December 20th. For those not in the know, for every pre-order I receive until 12/20/2016, I am matching every book ordered with a like donation to Toys For Tots that I will post here.

If the book is published, I will also donate extra copies to Toys For Tots as well. How cool is that that they take books? So let me know if you’d like your book donated or just want to buy an extra copy to donate to a needy child excited to receive and read a shiny new book with pictures to boot!

      4.) Next Up?

More sample chapters, at least one more special giveaway.

      Kind Regards,

      Kevin

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for APEX

        Dear Readers,

A lot has been happening since my last update. First and foremost, APEX was added to the Crypt TV collection, which means it will be promoted by Inkshares and CryptTV for possible film or TV adaptation, which is really exciting! I personally think APEX would make an excellent movie, but I’m seriously biased.

I have been diligently working on reworking my novel to make it the best book it can be, as that is what matters most. The major portion of that effort is regrouping the point of view in the chapters to preserve the mystery of what our geneticist, Claire, is doing. I have until the end of January to incorporate all my changes before I submit the manuscript to Inkshares for edits.

This past week, I submitted all my author information and creative work for the book cover, etc. The goal is to release the hard copy version of APEX on Halloween, a fitting date for a contemporary sci-fi thriller, don’t you think? At this point, I don’t know when  the ebook will be released, but it’s coming!

I got up at 6am a majority of the days during NaNoWriMo and tried to write for an hour. It was the only guaranteed quiet time I had. Jane-Holly (author of Fae Child) and Regina (author of Mothering: The Game) helped hold me accountable. We had so much fun checking in, we’ve decided to keep at it through December. We also managed to meet in person and have dinner this past week, which was great fun (we all live in Portland, Oregon area). They are even more delightful in person than online.

As January is a busy travel month for me, my goal is to finish most of the rework on my novel by the end of the year. I’ll check in with all of you around then and let you know how I did. Wish me luck!

Thank you again for your support and demonstrated faith in me. Publishing a novel has always been one of my top bucket list things to accomplish, and I couldn’t have done it without you.

        Cheers, Debbie

Jane-Holly Meissner liked the forum thread, Editing Until Crazy
Hey guys! I’ve been working on content editing for the last month. It was a bit hard to get going at first, mostly because I have been editing for longer than that, but once the Geek and Sundry contest concluded and The Living God made quill, I doubled down my efforts after passing it off to two beta readers.

I’m getting ready to wrap up the edits from their comments and pass it off to a final round of beta readers (2).

I’m just curious who else has had a point with their editing process, after they’ve culled and poured over it for so long, that they just can’t see it as decent writing anymore? Has anyone else just reached a point where they have doubts about what they’ve created?

I think a lot of it stems from having read the same sentences and paragraphs over and over to the point that I’m a bit desensitized to the information.

What are some of your editing to the point of insanity stories? Have you ever made yourself doubt your story by focusing too much on perfection?

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for I Am Waltz

            Hello Readers & Friends,

A BIG update. I Am Waltz has officially finished the developmental edit and is now with the copy editors at the publisher. The time is rapidly approaching now and books will be on there way sooner than later. The timeline provided by the publisher for this is a few months, so I hope everyone will get their books during the spring.

For those with signed paperbacks, the books will first be sent to me to sign, then the publisher will send them out to you all.

Thank you all again for your continued support and I hope you all love I Am Waltz when you get it.

Soon I will begin working on the sequel to this book and as promised all early adopters of I Am Waltz will be purvey to unique insight and tidbits/early drafts or the sequel.

            -Love, Matt
