Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Last Faoii

Updates, Faoii! This one’s short but I’m so excited that I can’t keep it secret any longer.

A lot of you have asked me for an audiobook version of The Last Faoii. So, I’m making that happen.

The Last Faoii audiobook is coming to Audible soon! Production is already underway and I can’t wait to give you more details as thing develop. After listening to dozens of auditions, I am so honored to announce that the the amazingly talented Sara Morsey will be the voice of the Faoii for this production. The moment I heard her read a sample, I couldn’t imagine anyone else being the voice of Kaiya and her Faoii army. Morsey is bringing an entirely new feel and level to this story, and I assure you that you won’t want to miss her telling of the tale.

Keep watching for more updates on this front. I hope that a successful audiobook launch will be one more step in the fight to make Faoii Betrayer real.

Keep those shields up.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Proteus

Time to check in with an update, like it or not.

We’re down to the last 19 days in Proteus’s funding period, and we’re just shy of the 600 pre-order mark at 592. In the past ten days, we’ve brought in 34 pre-orders. Which is impressive, and I could not be thankful for every single one of them. You guys rock.

I have to be honest, though. At this rate, it won’t be enough.

We need to get 158 new pre-orders in the next 19 days, or Proteus won’t happen. Averaging that out, that’s a bit over eight pre-orders a day. That’s more than I can handle on my own. I’ve gone to everyone I know and explored as many other avenues as I’ve been able to find, but the well is running dry. This is where I start getting truly desperate for help.

If any of you are on the fence about ordering, or have friends or family who said they’d be interested but haven’t yet come through, now is absolutely the time. If any of you can manage to support Proteus directly with a second pre-order of your own, I’d be forever grateful.

We CAN do this. I know we can. We’ve done it before. But the key word there is “we.” Proteus will be written thanks to me, but it will only exist as a published novel thanks to you. It’s going to take an army to get this thing done. So it’s time to rally the troops.

I am alive! Anything you heard to the contrary is false. No, JF Dubeau did not kill me off in his upcoming sequel. I just have had a really tough couple of years and I didn’t keep up with much of what I probably should have.

In the spirit of keeping things short and sweet, pertinent updates:

I will be at Dragoncon. If you can make it by, reach out to me so I can say hi. If you have your copy and it isn’t already signed, I’ll sign it!

Fall is 50% done being edited by me. If you haven’t, you should probably get your copy pre-ordered today!

I’ve got other ideas that have been percolating, but that’s the important stuff for now.

I have SO MANY updates this week, Faoii! Listen up!

First off. Let’s see how we’ve done this month. Status report incoming:

That’s pretty good progress, Faoii. But I KNOW that we can do better than that. You want to make Faoii Betrayer real? You want to make sure that the world knows our name? You want to earn the title I bestowed upon you when you chose to be part of this army? Then pick up your sword and make that happen. We’ve already lost a month, Faoii. If we don’t pick up the pace, we’re going to lose this war.

But I know a lot of you out there are fighting. And I want to welcome our newest soldiers to the field. Faoii Betrayer has, like its predecessor, been graced with the amazing and esteemed honor of being chosen by the Break the Bechdel with Strong Female Characters Syndicate. I cannot tell you what this means to me or how honored I am to be placed in their ranks again.  Look at the new medal in our barracks, my warriors! Let me hear your warcry!

Also--Did you see the new cover for Faoii Betrayer, once again put together by the incredibly talented Evan Graham?

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? And worthy of Alana and her struggle in Faoii Betrayer.

What’s interesting about Alana is she doesn’t know that she’s Faoii. She doesn’t even want to be Faoii. But we don’t often get to choose our greatness, and when I created the Faoii and their world, I wanted to embody all the heroines I had in life who didn’t even know how strong they are. Now I use Faoii in my day-to-day language, and I’m starting to see others out there do the same. Mark that word, my warriors. Everyone will use it someday. Because there’s finally a word for what we are. What we can be.

My last bit of news is only part of an announcement, but it is exciting and I will let you know what I can now. I am currently working on getting the audiobook for The Last Faoii out onto Audible for your enjoyment. I have had several amazing people audition for the part, and am currently negotiating the final steps of the process, which is thrilling. I am so excited for what’s coming, and you should be too. But I can’t tell you more until everything’s official. Just trust me that you’re going to want to be paying attention in the coming days. ;)

That’s it for now, Faoii. You have your orders. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and FOR THE LOVE OF ILLINDRIA ORDER YOUR COPY OF FAOII BETRAYER. It’s going to take all of us to make this book real. Some people might say it’s impossible... but they don’t have an army on their side. Do not fail me.

        Shields up.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for APEX

          Dear Readers,

I know it’s been awhile since I sent an update from Inkshares. I was trying to avoid annoying you with the double emails coming from my deborahmunroauthor.com website. So this update is just for you, not everyone on my email list.

First off, thank you all so much for your continued support. It means the world to me and gives me the strength to keep going with the editing and revising time and time again. APEX has feedback from two beta readers now, and they agree that it is shaping up into a compelling story that they had trouble putting down. In fact, one of them read the whole thing in a single sitting, which gladdens my heart :).

The next step is to incorporate their feedback, and then it’s back to my editor. The main issue left to resolve is on characterization. I have to flesh out my characters a little more and build their relationship further, but I’m close!

In case you missed some earlier updates from my website account, I am in the process of moving to New Zealand! Yes, it’s true that I’m becoming a Kiwi. I’ll be developing a biomedical engineering program within the mechanical engineering department at a university there. And I depart in two short weeks.

As you can imagine, that means life is chaotic at the moment with work projects, clearing out, packing, selling my house, establishing a home base abroad, and on and on. So, I’ve had to put APEX on hold until I’m settled again, which means the book won’t be in your hands until next year. Sigh...I was really hoping to have it to you sooner. But I hope you’ll find it was worth the wait! :)

Feel free to email me at dmunro@deborahmunroauthor.com or reply through Inkshares. I love hearing from you.

Best wishes to you all, and I’ll see you on the flip side of the world!

          Cheers, Debbie

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Kingdom of Dreams

May the 4th be with you!

Yes, it’s that day. So why in the world is Solo being released later this month? Brilliant Disney. I’m sure you have your reasons.

In other news, lots going on! The Richter scale of life has gone super seismic. In the last several months: I’ve started a new job, had another baby, moved. You know, your average year. That said, Kingdom of Dreams is back in our court! My editor at Reedsy has released her final edits and it’s my turn to put the final polish on the manuscript.

So what next? Well, two roads diverged into the woods...

There is news, but I can’t say until it’s official. How about that? Teased enough? I can say this book will be coming out this year, realistically with a Fall release. Again, I can’t say enough what it means to have your support.

Next update will bring big news one way or another. Until then...

            Keep Dreaming,

            Kevin

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Indispensable: How To Succeed At Your First Job and Beyond

              All-

I am happy to provide a timely update on the status of Indispensable!  While it was a long wait for my book to get to the top of the publication queue, we started the publication process full-steam-ahead mid-March.  In fact, just today, I got the manuscript back from the second round of copyediting.  From this point, there are only a few steps left:  accepting the copy edits, proofreading the manuscript, finalizing the cover design, ’pouring’ the book into the format, creating the ebook, and starting to print copies.  The target publication date is sometime mid-June, with all of you likely receiving your copies before June ends.

Strangely, after the ball having been in my court for so long, the manuscript is now largely out of my hands.  Instead, I am turning my attentions to marketing.  My goal is to give Indispensable its best possible launch into the world.  I’ll follow up with more details around how you can help if you’re so inclined, but, in the short term, it’s graduation season and Indispensable is shaping up to be a great graduation present.  If you know new graduates who could use advice - or those who work with new graduates (in university settings, in professional environments that take in lots of new hires) - please connect me.

I’m grateful for all your support - and can hardly believe this is finally happening!

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Last Faoii

Greetings, Faoii. There’s something we need to talk about before it blows up larger than it already has.

Two days ago I wrote an uplifting or at least solidarity-type post about depression on my Facebook page. Many people (including more than a few Inkshares authors) saw and commented on the post. Almost everyone was incredibly supportive, grateful, or kind. One person, however, said some very infuriating and hurtful things, and I took a stand to show support for people that have had to listen and endure such harmful rhetoric on a regular basis. Dozens of you chose to stand with me. Friends, loved ones, and so many of you wonderful Faoii drove him off of multiple posts using facts, logic, and a fair amount of sarcasm.

Then, within 24 hours, I received this terrible piece of hate mail through a burner e-mail on Inkshares. (I’m sorry for the language. I blurred the worst of it out).

Now, this is the important part. Even though certain parties seem suspicious given the timing and nature of the mail, there is currently no evidence about who this came from, and as such, I am asking that you do NOT confront anyone on the matter. We are better than that. Even if there was evidence we could direct our anger towards, they can’t do anything more than start a smear campaign or throw one-star reviews on Faoii’s Amazon page, anyway. And we are stronger than that, too.

So, be on the lookout, my warriors. We may have to be vigilant if we want to keep from being drowned in lies and slander. But also remember that a poorly written, vitriolic death threat from a petty soul on the internet is just one of the signs that we are starting to be known. I choose to see this as a good sign.

                Shields up.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked the forum thread, And the next thing on the horizon is...

I, like many others in this community, joined Inkshares to enter one of the many writing contests in the hopes of becoming published (aside from simply self-publishing - not that there’s anything wrong with that!). And also, like many others, have stayed (I first joined about two years ago) because I found the creativity and support of the other writers on Inkshares to be an incredible resource and motivation. However, I have found that my "participation" in the forums over the last few months has been sparse. I would pop into the site, browse the latest forum posts (if there were any), and usually jump to another author/reader site to see if there were any threads being discussed there.

There is no dearth of posts by fellow authors looking to drum up interest and followers to their projects. Don’t get me wrong, I expect that. This is a crowdfunding site, after all. But I think what I feel is missing is more active up-to-date news on what is currently happening at Inkshares and what is coming next. Some thoughts: what changes can we expect to the website? what books that are in production will soon be coming out? what will be the next contest and when will it start?

Perhaps there could be a weekly or biweekly update to the major "goings-on" behind the scenes? What do you think? Is that possible?

Welcome to the final frontier, Space Crew. We’ve reached the edge of the galaxy, and there’s no turning back.

                    News #1: Content is Complete

I’ve been through a couple rounds of edits with the Inkshares team since the last update, and this week I sent off the final doc for one last look-over before it hits the printers. The deal is sealed; I can no longer touch this book (which I have very good and very anxious feelings about).

News #2: We Have a Cover

I’ve admittedly been holding onto this for awhile, but I wanted to do a BIG UPDATE with all the BIG THINGS. This was created by the good folks at Cover Kitchen, and they knocked it out of the park in my biased opinion:

News #4: Backer Goodies are Being Prepped As We Speak

The Companion Guide is getting its finishing touches before I send it off to print. Pendants have been shipped by the amazing Esanany, and they’re looking fantastic. Take a look:

And in case you missed it, you’ll have your books by May 1! Don’t forget to make sure your address is up to date on Inkshares.
