I loved this kind of book as a teen, and am intrigued as an adult reader of the occasional YA book.
An eccentric modern-day mad scientist with a grand plan of developing a preservative to halt the natural decomposition of his bizarre sandwich collection, and the boy who unwittingly gets pulled into it as his assistant.
