@AC - what I'm suggesting is pretty similar to what @joe had proposed.  The main difference is that the specific reference to an object on the site would constrain the tag types and create a hard reference to that thing. For example, if there were a thread about a project, the tag would enforce the use of a certain name for that project (in this case the title), instead of a user-defined name.  Does that make sense?

@joe  - yes, I'm think once we have this in place users could filter threads by these references

I think it makes sense to allow a thread to reference an object in Inkshares. Will I be able to query all threads that associate with a specific object? That would satisfy my requirements.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a difference between this and Joe's suggestion. Would there be a selection of possible types of tags with predetermined options, and one type of tag would be a "Project" tag? Is that what you mean?

These are great ideas.

Ideally, I'd like to keep the taxonomy as simple as possible for as long as possible to help constrain discussions and make it easy for people to find relevant threads.

What about  having relatively few topics 4-8, but allow threads to be about some object on Inkshares – a project, contest, collection, etc...

So there could be a Thread titled Help me pick a cover under the Topic Inkshares Books that would "tag" the Project Lost Generation.

Does that make sense?

The topics display visually similar to tags (rather than folders.) I think this is great, but it would be advantageous to us to apply multiple tags to a topic. For example, I want to have multiple discussions about my book. There are four primary topics, but I’d like to also tag the posts so it would show up as [Inkshares Books] [Lost Generation], then be able to link to a url where I can view all threads about Lost Generation (,lost+generation or just

I think a tag based approach is a great way to filter the data, without the unpleasant visuals and complexity of a tree based hierarchy.
