Not in the spam

This has happened to me before. I found the subsequent credit email in my spam folder. But this was a week ago, and I don’t know if anything in the system has changed since then.

 INKSHARESJoni,

Billy O’Keefe clicked a link you shared and ordered Jason Chestnut’s To Live and Die in Avalon on Inkshares. Keep on sharing and help turn this book into a best-seller!

- got the mail but not the subsequent credit mail

@Jeremy Thomas @Thaddeus Woodman at the moment the credit system doesn’t work at all. 2 credits for new projects weren’t received today on my end,@Billy O’Keefe , @Mike Donald and @Peter Ryan had the same problem.

It’s still not working right - we still get credits multiple times for the same referral link. HEAVIEST OF SIGHS.

...and now I think I’ve just gotten credits twice from the same referral code link. So okay. I don’t know how this works.

I think the theory is that people receive credits once and once only for each referral code that they get other people to use. So: if you buy my book and get a referral code for it, you will get credits for the first time someone else clicks on your referral code link to buy my book. I, as the author, would have a different referral code for my book, and I would get credits for the first time someone else clicks my referral code link. As I understand it, each code link is meant to work once and once only, to give credits to whoever first received it from the Inkshares system.

That’s the theory, anyway. I was just surprised yesterday when I got credits for apparently referring someone somewhere ... only I’d never had a referral code for the book they bought. Very mysterious. I mean, it’s a book I’ve recommended, but I haven’t purchased it yet and I haven’t a code for it. I’ve heard a rumour that it doesn’t matter which referral code link people follow in: that they can follow a link, browse away to another book, and it’s enough for the system if they make a purchase anywhere on the site as long as they reached the site through one of your referral codes--you’ll get the credits for it. But I don’t actually know.

Also, there was a time when referral codes given to authors for their own books worked indefinitely: anyone who clicked the link and bought the book would give credits to the author. I think this was recognised as a bug and discontinued; but I also see people giving out referral codes as though they were still always good, so I don’t know.

I remember getting credits for the first time I recommended a book. I don’t know if this is still in effect: I heard that a lot of people were abusing the system, so Inkshares discontinued it.

Hello!

When you recommend a book via the function on its page, do you receive credits for doing so? Also, when you receive offers to trade pre-orders, or a request for a referral code (in my case, often as  part of a pitch), does this award credits to you, the requester, or both? I’ve emailed in the past about this and related issues, but being such a newbie to Inkshares and crowdfunding in general, I guess somehow I’m still not fully understanding it
