@Katie Hayes That’s great! I wish the best for you. Not really surprised with the library thing honestly. I’ve seen a lot of authors try going that route with both book stores and Libraries. Everyone seemed to get no’s, very few mentioned that they were polite about it either. I posted a forum you may be able to draw some more inspiration from, it’s called "Strategy Guide" and I posted some ideas I thought were out of the box.

Hi Luke!  Thanks for the suggestion.  I had a friend of mine who is involved in several mommy groups post the link to their websites.  So far I’ve had much more luck talking to childcare centers than libraries-- which has surprised me.  I did have one creative marketing brainwave-- I made a free knitting pattern (I know, I’m a BIG nerd!) to advertise the book and posted it on ravelry (the social networking site for knitters.)  It has driven a lot of traffic to my blog, and resulted in at least a few preorder sales for the book.  Here is the post.

I am not yet a published author, but perhaps you should find some sort of club for mothers and read it there? They’ll be your best market, maybe you should also advertise it somewhere as a good gift for baby showers?

Hi authors! I’m about to launch an inkshares campaign for a hardback book called Twisted Tales for Tacky Children-- which is basically an illustrated collection of funny kids poetry.  I’m looking for ideas from other authors on creative ways to do book readings.  What has been successful for others? Public libraries? Local bookstores? (the bookstore thing seems a little awkward, since technically the book doesn’t exist yet.) Mommy groups? What ideas am I missing?  I’m also curious if others  held some sort of launch party when you started your pre-order campaign?  If so, was it successful and what did you learn from it? I’ve been thinking of trying to set something up at  my local coffee/wine shop. Thanks in advance!
