@Joseph Keeler Interesting idea. Perhaps they should hire a team to run the contests while they continuously work on the general site and its functions. Maybe when there aren’t any contests going on that team could also work on publicity for inkshares.

Considering they are so busy right now with the contests and the publishing of dozens of books, its unlikely we will see any changes to the site for a VERY long time. They are working really hard, but theres only so much a small team can do. They should think about hiring more people for site management while they handle all the contest/publication process

I believe they only accept Stripe. Although using Paypal wouldn’t make the kind of author payment widget I was suggesting happen. That would still have to be a thing Inkshares builds for us.

Does inkshares accept paypal? From my understanding of both yours and payapls concept they’d be similar. However I have not used either yet.

An email sign up sheet makes sense. Or sending them the email literally right then, so they can pull it up on their phones and do it. Or if you have multiple tablets available, you could have the tablets queued up to your pre-order page.

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I’m going to be promoting my book, which is still in funding, at a local convention next month and I’ve been trying to figure out what is the best way to sell preorders on the day.

At the minute, would the best way to do this be to add them to my Reader Pipeline, manually, using their email address - and then send them a prompt to buy the book?

I was thinking it would be a nice new feature if part of an author’s page for their funding project or part of the author dashboard could be an orders widget.

There are lots of times I’ve been with people who are interested in my book and would be more likely to order it right there in the moment if I could take care of the process for them.

Offhand, I’m picturing a widget that would let me enter their email and payment info that would generate the regular email confirm and an email to set up their account password and stuff.

When I had the idea, I also thought about the bad side of the widget. I could enter people’s emails and credit card numbers for orders they don’t want. But I could do that now. If I was the kind of person who didn’t mind stealing from people, I could set up accounts after getting people’s credit card numbers, and there would be no record I did anything. With a widget in place for authors to place orders for others, there’d be records that the author entered the transaction and we’d make the book buying process easier for in-person marketing.
