5-star thriller
Mike Delaney – conflicted, spiritual, charismatic – is an Irish-American former U.S government assassin, Hong Kong Police enforcer and esoteric monk who has sworn never to kill again – until his pregnant wife is murdered.
Pitch:
Mike Delaney is kicked out of the Hong Kong force on a trumped up charge along with his partner Bob Messenger. Delaney drops out and joins a reclusive esoteric monastic brotherhood while Messenger forms confess-confess – a global crime busting website where ordinary people fight back against injustice, each with their own code name. Delaney is known as ’The Monk’.
Delaney falls in love, leaves the monastery and marries. One year later his investigative journalist wife is brutally murdered by a contract serial killer known as ’The Priest’. She is one of many. Delaney vows to track down ’The Priest’.
He discovers his wife was about to expose a global plot known as The Renaissance Project involving the richest and most powerful people on the planet who pay huge sums to attain true immortality (high tech human cloning). The ’Priest’ is their tame assassin (but Lucius Gynt is not as tame as they think he is). Delaney’s search for ’The Priest’ and uncovering the labyrinthine Renaissance Project will test his skills to the limit and put his life on the line.
What readers say about The Immortality Plot:
‘There are books that have heart and soul, and a wide gallery of emotions, and there are books that have action and thrills. Finding a masterly written book with a generous display of soul and a clear presences of the heart in the main character is very rare, especially in a thriller. The stereotype mucho grucho hardboiled man is so far from this gorgeously portrayed character. The heartbreaking backstory is revealed in a very subtle way, whilst the current events unfold in a masterly suspense escalating way. I’m absolutely in a wow-state after reading this book. This is definitely one of the best, if not THE best thriller I’ve ever read, and considering I am a avid reader, I’ve read quite a few.
Standing ovations and a nomination to best thriller EVER written award (if there is such a award). Masterly done. Sheer genius!!’
‘Another riveting read from David Callinan! This is a thriller you won’t want to miss! It grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go! I love finding new authors, and I will definitely be following this one.’
’This book’s bad "guy" is wonderfully unique without giving too much away. You will not be disappointed, like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it’s hard to put down. It’s the wee hours of the morning, and I should have gone to sleep hours ago.’
‘Great read, loved every bit of it. Hope there will be more of Mike Delaney soon. Could feel his grief throughout the book and joined him in his desire to find justice. Move over Jack Reacher, you have been cloned.’
‘This is the first of David Callinan’s books I have read, and I feel I have discovered the key to another life. His characters are complex, believable, and very human. His scenes are described just enough to be lucid, surrounding the reader with the places and the situations. This is a finely crafted, masterfully written experience—and I will be reading more of his work! Thank you, sir, for a thrilling introduction!’
‘This is one of the most unique plots that I have read. It is fast paced and keeps you on the edge. The underlying story is fascinating.and the character development is superb. Ex member of a secret military branch and ex- cop Mike Delaney is on the trail of his wife’s murderer. This murderer turns out to be a very unusual person and the reason for the murder is chilling.’
‘This novel was absolutely terrific. The plot was unique and interesting; it flowed smoothly to its conclusion, and all the loose ends were tied up by the conclusion. The characters were realistic and empathetic ( the good guys). The murderers and criminals were presented in such a way so I absolutely ABHORRED the lot of them. Mr. Callinan is a very talented writer, a great story-teller, and knows his craft well. At 470 pages, it took me about a week to read this novel, and I relished every word of it. The narration was excellent and thought provoking and smoothly written. The dialogue of each character suited the author’s construction of their personalities. As a reader, I either loved them or hated them. I’ve read a few of Mr. Callinan’s short stories and enjoyed them, so I knew I’d like reading this novel. This was one killer read! I loved the ending! It’s awesome when the murderers get what’s coming to them in the end. This was a very memorable novel. Looking forward to reading another of this author’s adult novels.’
