To all the explorers
and to my dear father,
I can’t be grateful enough to have lived all these wonderful adventures.
‘Home isn’t a place, it is a feeling’
Prologue
The expat life may be perceived as an ultimate lifestyle goal, but just like any other life, it is not always just sunshine.
When my parents had completed their higher education, settled down independently, gotten married and had my sister and I, they were all set.
They had decided to explore the world from a different perspective than the one of being mere tourists, they had prepared and they were more then ready to take on the challenge they had set themselves. Our life was turned-over from one day to the next several times, but it was almost a calculated risk each time.
My father, just like any other successful man, proved himself and followed his vision to get to where he is today. He always prepared for the worst and for the better and he took each opportunity as it came, always moving forward no matter what.
The life of an expatriate sure has its facilities and benefits but nothing is ever given. It is a mix of hard work, a certain capacity of adaptation, discipline and an open mind eager to take on the right opportunities.
In the end, it is up to you what you make out of your life. You and the environment you decide to live in are what will give you the mentality and willpower to reach the life you envision.
This one is a life where the term “home” is merely just a feeling.
This is the story of our world x
