2024 was a very busy year with a contracted ghostwriting project that took me away from House of the Broken Promise. I also have a full-time job being a chauffeur to my two teenagers and provider of all things emotional and physical for my dogs. They are very needy.
The cons? I’ve been very slow to turn in my revised manuscript to my editor, and I’m feeling a lot of pressure to get my book into your hands as soon as possible. The pros? Stepping away from my manuscript for an extended period of time has me looking at it with fresh eyes. My revisions have turned into nearly a full rewriting of Anna’s story, and I’m excited for the results. Rest assured; I am working diligently to complete the rewrite within the next couple of weeks.
I appreciate the patience and loyalty you have all shown me.
I will be in touch soon as we shift from revisions to the next steps.
Hello, Inkshares family! Here is a quick update about House of the Broken Promise.
Revisions are still underway but have stalled as I complete a year-long ghostwriting project. As the contract comes to a finish in August, my revisions for House of the Broken Promise will resume at a much faster pace. Thank you all for your patience!
In the meantime, I will be participating in a Zoom author panel this Wednesday July 31st at 8pm EST. Inkshares author Caren Simpson McVicker is celebrating the one-year publication anniversary of her fantastic book, Henderson House (check it out!) and has also asked author Stephen Harrison to join in the fun. Stephen’s book, The Editors, hits bookstores August 13th.
Did you know that the typical time it takes for a writer to go from book contract to publication is between nine months and two years? Given that my contract really didn’t begin until September, we are on trend.
There are many steps in the publishing process. I am holding steady in the revision stage, which is both exciting and fatiguing. This stage, the most tedious to me, is the most important, because it means that the team and I are working diligently to deliver House of the Broken Promise in its best form. The point isn’t just to get published, but to publish something special. We don’t want my book to be average. We want it to be great, and to be great takes meticulous work and loads of time. It is so hard to be patient after Anna’s story has been with me for so many years; but I am so excited by what is coming out of this process.
I’ll be sure to update again when we move to the next step.
Happy Holidays! As promised, Chapter 6 has been posted under the "READ" tab on my Inkshares page. Keep in mind, revisions are now underway, so what you read here may change a little or a lot by the time House of the Broken Promise goes to print.
After several in-depth conversations with my editorial team, I am more excited than ever to bring you Anna’s story. I will work diligently to make the necessary revisions as quickly as possible so that House of the Broken Promise gets into your hands as soon as possible.
This is such an exciting and worthwhile journey, and I am learning so much. House of the Broken Promise is in good hands here.
Thank you, as always, for your patience and support.
I wish you all the best of the holidays and a wonderful New Year!
Hello! Happy fall! House of the Broken Promise has officially entered editorial review! What does that mean? My publishing team at Inkshares delves into my manuscript. We discuss changes, improvements, vision, etc. When we come to an agreement, we will do a few rounds of rewrites/revisions, and then the next phase will begin (cover design, layout, etc.) It’s all very exciting, and it’s been hard to remain patient until this point; however, I know that my book will get the same level of attention as the book that came before mine. This is the beauty of working with a small publisher. They are invested in the success of each and every book that they take on, including of House of the Broken Promise. After meeting with Adam and Noah, I could not be more excited about this partnership.
To celebrate this momentous step forward, I will be sharing chapter 6 of House of the Broken Promise sometime in December. Be on the lookout!
As always, thank you for your continued support and for travelling on this journey with me.
Just a quick update: I had my first meeting with the publisher (Inkshares) about two weeks ago, and I have to say how excited it made me. I felt very comfortable and had a lot of fun getting to know the team. What’s next? They are in the process of reviewing my manuscript and writing an editorial letter (to which I will respond) to get us on the same page before we start revisions. There are usually a few rounds of revisions before the book goes into copyediting and proofreading, then it’s layout and cover design, etc. The process has begun! I am learning a lot, doing some homework, and preparing myself to be taken out of my comfort zone. The goal is to make sure that House of the Broken Promise comes to you in its best form. Thank you all for your patience and support. I am leaning towards posting another chapter in the future to tide you over. We shall see. In the meantime, my monthly blog is still going. Peruse at your leisure. www.sonjaroberts.wordpress.com
Hi, everyone! A quick update as to next steps: Inkshares has my manuscript and will be reviewing it within the next two months. After that, it goes into editing, proofreading, copyediting, etc. These steps take a considerable amount of time and also depend upon how many manuscripts are ahead of mine in the queue. Once those steps are complete, we will do the cover design, layout, back cover, and all the other fine tuning. The process is a marathon not a sprint, despite my drive for this book to get into your hands asap. The most important thing is that we get it right, so I am trying to be patient! I will update you as things progress, but rest assured, it’s going to happen! Thank you for your patience and support!
We have done it! Thank you everyone- House of the Broken Promise has gone into production! In honor of this momentous occasion, I will post chapter 5. Orders can still be placed for paperback and ebooks. I will keep you all posted as things progress and can’t wait to get out on my book tour to thank many of you in person. I am forever grateful for each and every one of you.
In celebration of crossing the 500 preorder threshold, chapter 4 is now posted under the READ tab. 29 days left to get the last 250. It’s a nail biter!!!!
Big news, everyone! We have a release date! Drum roll, please......
July 7, 2026
I can’t wait for you to finally meet Anna.
Thanks for staying with me on this journey. It will be worth the wait!
With gratitude,
Sonja
