I am a teacher, basketball coach and a writer from Salt Lake City. I write to share stories that both entertain and inspire.

Hobbitville is a children’s fantasy that brings Hobbits into the modern world. Having hidden in plain sight since migrating from the areas where they lingered when their existence first came to light, Hobbits will once again be asked to leave the comfort of their isolated society to go on a series of thrilling adventures.

Several years ago, while teaching "The Hobbit" to my 6th grade class, I used the idea of Hobbitville to bring Tolkien’s timeless masterpiece to life for my kids.

An actual local urban legend, "Hobbitville" is (supposedly) an isolated community of "little people" hidden within the Salt Lake valley. In an effort to maintain their way of life and relative obscurity, Hobbits were forced to move west during the 19th century. With the help of Diovinchi, who, like wizards before him, assumed responsibility for the halfling’s safety, they set out for the New World.

A history chronicling why Hobbit’s chose Salt Lake City and how they managed to get there has already been written. My 6th graders, however, were much more interested in modern day Hobbit adventures than this history. Should readers prove interested this history may someday be published. However, "Hobbitville" is the much more exhilarating tale recent Hobbit exploits.

With your Money

With the funds raised, I will finalize the project, hopefully encouraging kids to read and explore their imaginations.
