You really capture the hard boiled detective feeling in your style of writing, I really like stories like that myself and am curious about how you will mix that with the fantasy elements in later chapters. 

The premise certainly seems interesting, and you have a way with describing the environment in a detailed way without taking the reader out of the story. Well done. 

I would like to know a bit more about our protagonist though. His personality does come through but we know very little about him. I'd like to know more about the man we are following on this journey.
