This author beautifully weaves past, present and visions of the future, calls on elements of the supernatural to augment a reality that seems all too familiar, and creates a protagonist that demands attention.  The words are beautiful and the story is cleanly written, and the sense of foreboding builds and mounts.  This is a story that gets better with each reading, and is enchanting in the first pass.
