“…what I am about to tell you is an injustice the likes of which the world has tolerated so long as men have walked in it.” A mother writes to her unborn child. Devil’s Call opens with the promise of a story full of dirt, blood, and vengeance—expected ingredients of any great Western. Although we are only given a brief glimpse into this tale, I applaud this unique framing device and all its potential. Given the setup, a pregnant woman on a journey to avenge her wronged husband is enough, but the fact that she also happens to be a deadly witch should make this story all the more gruesome and exciting! Dark, mysterious, and extremely well written—Devil’s Call has it all.
