Eldritch horror meets the teen detective genre in the first novel of the Arkham Akademy series. The question is not what cosmic menace, dark force, or corrupt science is responsible, but which one? The game is afoot, or tentacle? A claw maybe...
I received an enthusiastic if not confused reply regarding a request for photograph reference of the town where my book is set. They asked me to confirm I was indeed talking about that town, so they could forward my request to a historian... It just got very Lovecraft.
Tentative update structure will work as such: Every 10 Readers - Readers get new draft, aka, whatever is done for current chapter. Next 10 Readers - That preliminary material becomes available to Followers, Readers get up to the next rough full chapter.
And so on... So, currently when we reach 10 preorders, Readers will see the rest of Chapter 3, at 20 preorders Followers get that material while Readers will get the start of Chapter 4, etc. Readers will also get early access to some of the art development which will trickle to the Follower feed in much the same way.
This may change due to the realities of having a day job, and also the fact that I don’t work particularly linearly. So Readers may also see some advance material straight for the chaos engine if I don’t have something immediately available in the progression.
Update: What a big day today! I went to the break room at work and heard my phone e-mail alerts going off like a fire alarm. Again, thank you everyone for the interest, the wonderful reviews and feedback, and the support all around. A week or two ago I had some lingering doubt about continuing the campaign after the G&S contest, and considered withdrawing. Now those plans have changed, so let me cover some thoughts that have been running through my head today.
For one, I love this momentum, so as nervous and excited as I am, I have decided to see the project through to November. I will have a list of goals/rewards soon, and Readers will begin to see more exclusive content, while Followers will still get chapters, albeit more slowly. No one will see the book complete until it is finished.
I have some background as an illustrator and in design, so some of the Reader rewards will be sharing the art as it develops. I am considering including some tabletop RPG material developed for private games as rewards as well, but we’ll see how much the current workload is. I estimate plenty.
As to the story, you have met half of the primary cast, the rest of whom you will meet in the next chapters. None of these characters are planned to survive this book entirely intact; be it physically, psychologically or emotionally.
Constructive feedback (and especially encouragement) is appreciated, with the addendum that I may elect to ignore it depending on my judgement for theme and story purposes. Everything you are reading is in a draft stage, as I fuss over sections they may change.
A semi-animated video is in the planning stages for the last 90 day push.
