Although Wild Conviction is a work of fiction, its values & the racist culture which produced them are still alive and well in the 21st century! To focus on a young girl’s realization of these horrible truths is a brilliant way to present these inequalities & hurtful attitudes.
As a woman who grew up in the South, this book & the characters are authentic and the issues they face in coming to terms with racism are real. As are how Southern women are still taught to be "ladies!"
