Religious unrest inflames the Kingdoms. Mad gods seek their vengeance. And the will of the Sword refuses to be denied. Ryn and Josalind are forced to take separate paths where the murder of an innocent and the sacrifice of family may be inevitable.
It’s the year 2147: a time of enduring peace on Earth. The Last War ended half a century ago. We can cure most ills, the air is pure, and teleportation is how we get around. Sounds great, right? So why does everyone suddenly want to kill Joel Byram?
Thanks for the comments, Mike! My writing was intentionally clunky here, since the entire scene is from the POV of a 4-year-old – so your suggestions wouldn’t work with his voice.
However, since Inkshares accepted this book for publication, both my editor and I have agreed that this isn’t the best POV to begin the book with – not least for the barriers it throws up to easy reading, like those you encountered. So don’t worry – there’ll be a new Chapter One for you to preview soon...!
