Fairy-companions weren’t unheard-of. Unusual, but not unheard-of. Rare. Legendary, even. Oliver couldn’t remember a time without his.

That’s an awesome question! Why? Because it’s so hard to answer. For me, I don’t feel like there is every one particular thing that inspires a story; it’s an amalgamation of whatever is going on in life at that moment and my (then) current mindset. But I think what inspired me to write the novel that is up on Inkshares was my inability to find a book that covered the topic I was pondering. When you can’t find it, write it!

I’ve always written since I can remember being able to write.  Usually, it was short stories, I write and have written probably entire novels over the course of roleplay with friends.  I don’t know if my current first draft (shamelessly here at www.inkshares.com/painted-stars) originally started as a book.  I’d just gotten my son’s autism diagnosis with no idea what was on the horizon as his mom (it’s an amazing magical ride) and letting go of everything I thought parenting would be to accept it was different was...very difficult.

I did what I’ve always done.  I opened my google docs and started writing.  I was inspired by the awe of the enormity of being a parent and found it tied well with the same sort of sense staring at the night sky and pondering the universe gives me.  Every day, it got a little bit longer until I somehow had 30k words and kept growing.  It didn’t write itself, per se- it’s taken me three years to finish.  It’s almost morphed from a coping tool into creating a world my son and I can share, really.

Hi everyone!  I’ve been lurking around for ages because my project was originally intended for a contest.  Life being life, that didn’t exactly sort out at the time.  I have amazing news, though- the first draft is finished!  Finally!

Now to the purpose of the thread:  I have some beta readers working through the draft.  I have samples on my Inkshares page.  I have done oodles and oodles of research about social media marketing and pored over threads here on the forums, too.  I have some general ideas and am not in a rush to get to funding yet- I’m looking to start building a readership first.

Things I have/am doing: reading and liking here on Inkshares, I have a blog but I hate the website it’s on so that might be moving soon, I have a Facebook page, and nominally a Twitter.

Things that are important to know for advice:  I am the primary caregiver and stay at home mom to a five-year-old boy with autism.   My guaranteed work hours are his six hours of school four days a week (three on Tuesdays), maybe a bit during his six hours of therapy a week), and after he’s asleep.  That schedule can fluctuate dramatically based on illness, school vacation, and the dozens of other appointments.

I am so happy to finally have a draft completed to revise and offer for the feedback!  Tips and good luck wishes are much appreciated because I know my job isn’t nearly done yet.

        Hello!
I’m Andrew and am completely new to inkshares. The way that I discovered the site is actually because a teacher of mine used it to get his book published.
I’ve personally never written more than a short story before but this is my first attempt at a full-fledged novel.

The fiction novel I’m writing is called Rejects and it follows the life of a young girl in a dystopian country known as Dravia. I’ve written well over 8 chapters for it by now (two have been posted on inkshares as of writing this) and am planning to hopefully be done with the whole writing process by September of 2018.

I’d be eternally grateful for any questions, comments and concerns left on my story and I’ll definitely be giving the books by other authors in this thread a read in the meantime!

        Many thanks,
        Andrew Hennis

Hi everyone! I found Inkshares through a book jacket at my local library. I’ve envisioned my writing on bookstore shelves since I was in early elementary school and am excited to finally start out on that journey. I’m definitely interested in hearing feedback to strengthen and hone my skills. I also enjoy reading as much as I can and having access to the great pieces here has already been quite fun. I look forward to new friends and advice!

Hello everyone! I’m a complete newbie, to Inkshares and to writing. It’s always been my dream and I figured I’d finally give it a go.  I’m starting with a mystery titled "Retirement Kills," hopefully it doesn’t turn out too awful. If any of you vets have any tips or suggestions you’d like to make, I’m always eager for help!
            Hope you’re all doing well!

Hi, new myself but seems like a great place to find like minds and support.  From experience the best advice I can give is to keep putting words down. No matter how bad you think it is, it can be edited, re drafted, polished. Some of my best ideas rose out of stinkers. Have fun!
