Tahani Nelson sent an update for The Last Faoii

At Ease, Faoii.  This one is a short update.

43 of you have picked your blades back up to join the fight. That’s amazing for 3 days. However, it’s less than half of those who supported us a week ago. All of my scouts that have reported today have told me that their refunds have hit-- which means you should have the ability to re-enlist in this war right now. I’m not asking for anything more from you-- only that you join in with the same battle song you were already willing to put forward in the past. You’ll be no worse off than you were 3 days ago.

Contact me if you have reservations-- I’ll prove to you that this book--this fight-- is worth it.

Thank you to everyone who’s joined in the charge already-- you make my heart soar.

    Reports are in, Faoii!

5 of our warriors delivered messages today saying that they got their refunds in and are ready to join the battle. Kind of weird for a Sunday, but I’m not going to question it. However, they wanted to know if they should just join the charge immediately or if they should wait until we can amass another attack and spur the battle to our original goal in one more glorious charge.

Now, faoii, I’m a dramatic person. I love the idea of coming out of nowhere and taking that hill out from under everyone’s noses. But I’m also incredibly impatient. It’s actually kind of a problem.  So, check your bank accounts tomorrow. If you’ve got your refund in, then by all means, release your battle cry and take that hill. Whether the people of inkshares see 50 updates in an hour or 1 every hour for the next three days won’t matter-- either way they will see us. They will know us. And they will fear us.

I had 90 of you supporting me a week ago. 90 of you were willing to follow me into battle even though at the time we didn’t have nearly as sure a victory as we do now. I cannot believe that so many would back out of the fight when we have a much likelier chance of seeing this thing through. Your blade is waiting for you at inkshares.com/books/the-last-faoii. You know better than I which you’re fit to wield. Pick it up and join the fight. I look forward to seeing you on the field!

@Tahani Nelson just to set the record straight, this wasn’t something that changed: 100% of pre-orders in Quill  & Inkshares prior to successful funding have always to the production of the book, and were not distributed to authors.

        Greeting, Faoii!

We’ve made it through the first 24 hours and, sadly, we didn’t take that hill. Or even get our banner on the leader boards. But I know that’s just because not everyone has the money to put towards The Last Faoii until refunds come in. So my eyes are still set on that prize, and I know we’ll take it within the next couple days. Thank you to everyone who’s joined the fight (again). We’re already at 33 pre-orders, which is FANTASTIC for two days. Keep your heads up. We’ll publish this thing, and we’re still going to get to that number 1 spot in the contest. The people will know who we are.

As a side note-- for those of you who are interested, I just found out that royalties for publishing through inkshares has changed drastically. If you’re trying to publish through inkshares and you haven’t seen the change, make sure to check out the FAQ as soon as you can.

Tahani Nelson liked an update for The Hunter Saga

          Good evening, Adventurers!

Happy to inform you that I slept for a good 13 hours last night. I  woke up to a panic about being late from a hamster show (don’t laugh, the Dark Lord got very good grades.) I wanted to un-enter the show in order to work on The Hunter Saga, but found out that the show had a no refunds policy. So off we went. We returned home to discover that I have a stomach-flu going on. Nice.

Anyway! On to the stuff you follow me for. Because there are so many battles during 400-300 bce I have to be super careful to not walk my characters straight into a war zone. So many friggin’ battles. Why? Just chill. Be friends. Stop the racism, classism, sexism, you are fascinating but so messed up.

Corinth has plenty of material to research, and this evening, I’d like to share some of my fresh mythology findings. They are raw and unedited - straight from my research file and not written for publication, so please, excuse my grammar and other mistakes. Here you go:

          • Ephyra, was founded by Ephyra (an Oceanid) as it’s Corinth’s ancient name.
          • Sisyphos founded a race of ancient kings at Ephyra.
          • The Upper Peirene spring is in the acropolis of Corinth, Acrocorinth. Water-hole for Pegasus. It was a gift from Asopos to Sisyphos. Sisyphos knew that Zeus raped Asopus’ daughter Aegina, but refused to tell him before he had the spring. What an ass.
          • Ephyra was destroyed around 2000 BCE.
          • Founded by Corinthos, a descendant of Titan Helios (the Sun).
          • Iason (leader of Argonauts) betrayed his wife, princess Medeia (sorceress, granddaughter of Helios, niece of Kirke) in Corinth around 1300 BCE, when king Kreon of Corinth offered Iason his daughter Kreousa (a Naiad). Medeia killed Kreousa, Kreon, and her & Iason’s children because she feared others would kill the kids cruelly in revenge for the royal murders. Then she fled to Athens in a chariot of Helios’ dragons. What. With his betrayal Iason lost favor with Hera, and he died lonely and unhappy when his rotting ship Argo fell on him. Haha, aw.
          • Pausanias (200 CE) tells: Briareos (a hekatonkheire) judged a qualm between Poseidon and Helios. His verdict was that Isthmus (neck) of Corinth belonged to Poseidon and Acrocorinth belonged to Helios. Thus the local cult of Helios.

With those tiny bed-time stories, I wish you a good night,

          Thank you. You matter.

          -H.A.

Tahani Nelson created a forum thread: Be careful if you accept an offer from a collective!
So, Thane Studios invited me to join their collective about a month ago. This was a big honor for me, because they seemed professional and obviously had more resources than I did-- which meant I’d have a higher chance of publishing The Last Faoii. When he invited me to join there was a lot of discussion on how they were going to help me get the necessary pre-orders to publish. In payment, they were to get 12% of the royalties of the books that were pre-ordered after I joined the collective.

Today, exactly 18 hours and 29 pre-orders after the beginning of my campaign, Thane Studios said that they weren’t going to be able to help me market, after all, and told me that I could opt out of the collective. That’s all well in good, but Inkshare’s contract on the matter decrees that he still get his 12% within 30 days of me opting out (supposedly because it’s assumed that at least some marketing was done prior to this, and therefore at least some of those pre-orders could have been because of the collective’s influence). On paper, it makes sense. In reality it means that 12% of every pre-order thus far (and for the next 30 days) goes to these people who did absolutely nothing to assist with seeing The Last Faoii become reality, and that fills me with a rage I’m not sure I can adequately portray.

Obviously there’s nothing that I can do about it now, and my Faoii army is just going to charge forward after this, regardless if someone else is profiting from our hard work. But if anyone who is reading this is trying to publish their own story through Inkshares-- I suggest that you do NOT sign a contract with Thane Studios. Because I really feel like I just got scammed and that hurts. Maybe I was just naive and shouldn’t have signed on the dotted line. But maybe this thread will help save other people who are naive, too.
