Day three in the Nerdist Science Fiction contest, and Proteus is still climbing the ranks, sitting solidly in the top ten. The support you’ve been showing has been amazing, and I cannot thank you enough for it. As promised here comes a story-focused update. Introducing the city-sized marvel of deep space travel, The Somnambule:

The Somnambule is a home to thousands, many of which will live their entire lives on its vast decks. It is an ark. A refuge. A prison. A tomb.

Thousands of lightyears away from the home they left and the home that awaits them, the inhabitants of The Somnambule are well and truly on their own. When conflict erupts in the chambers of this colossal monolith, more than 50,000 lives hang in the balance. One man will take it upon himself to save them from destruction. But the question must be asked...who will save them from him?

Order Proteus, and find out!

p.s.: It’s pronounced "SAHM-nam-BYOOL" I know someone’s gonna ask. ;)

Evan Graham created a forum thread: Incorrect rankings in the Nerdist contest
This has been an issue since the start of this contest, so it’s probably already common knowledge, but in case it isn’t, I’m bringing it up here.
For some reason, the leaderboard seems to be sorting people out of order. It should list the entrees in descending order by number of unique pre-orders, but as of right now it seems to be really inconsistent. Currently the top ten are listed as follows:
      1st: 84
      2nd: 40
      3rd: 44
      4th: 40
      5th: 38
      6th: 36
      7th: 37
      8th: 28
      9th: 31
      10th: 29.

It’s getting really hard to tell what your actual ranking is, and I imagine for the people fighting over the top three positions, that’s pretty maddening

       Well sirs,

I passed the 80,000 word mark, a major milestone. That was my goal for the total word count in the book, and I just squeaked past it. I’m working to wrap things up as quickly as possibly, without making the ending too abrupt. I figure I have maybe another 10,000 words or so to write, then I’m done.

The process hasn’t been harder than I anticipated, but it sure as hell has taken a lot longer. For that, I apologize. As I mentioned in my last update, I ended up tossing some 45,000 words, and though the story is much better for it, I can’t help feeling a little bad to keep everyone waiting so long. On the plus side, these newer ideas add excitement, fun characters, and a few WTF twists.

I’m going to finish this draft in the next 2 weeks (approximately), then spend a few more months smoothing out sections and tying it all together. As I complete sections, I will post them for you to finally start reading and (hopefully) enjoying.

      Thanks for the patience!

Evan Graham liked the forum thread, Nerdist Sci-Fi Contest: The Story So Far Part 1
Hey everyone! So the last contest I did this for I did one every Friday/Saturday and I was planning to do it this time as well but I recently found out some *very* good news from my publisher involving one of my works so due to having to shift focus there I am going to do these every other week. So the second edition should be this Friday!

I think this will end up being slightly better in the long run regardless as far as The Story So Far is concerned since last time I felt like I was repeating myself a lot trying to put out new content for stories that stay in the Top 10 for a long time or the entire contest so hopefully this will keep things fresh for you, the readers, and myself.

Thanks for the patience as I cook up this weeks edition, expect it Friday or Saturday night. Also thank you so much for the feedback!

Two days into our campaign for Proteus, and we’ve already worked our way to tenth place in the contest, out of 150 entrants. The support we’ve seen already is phenomenal, and it personally warms my heart to see how much faith so many of you have in me that you’d be willing to rally for me a second time even though the first book is still in production. I promise you, I won’t let you down.

We’ve made it to the top ten in record time, but now we have to climb through them. At the time of writing, 17 pre-orders stand between Proteus and the coveted third place position, and I fully expect those numbers to rise significantly by the end of the contest. We mustn’t lose momentum!

Only 18 days remain in this contest, and after that, we’ve either won or we’re done. There will be no long pre-order campaign this time; it’s total victory or defeat. We’ll be getting Tantalus Depths no matter what, but with this contest won, we’ll have the beginning of a franchise rather than a single novel. If you can spare as little as ten dollars, please lend Proteus your support, and tell all your family and friends about it. I’m passionate about this story, and I am so eager to share it with you.

Expect to see some new story content updates in the next coming days. We’re exploring a completely different side of the galaxy that we were introduced to in Tantalus Depths so expect to see some brand new story elements with a familiar feel to them. For now, I leave you with this new promotional video for Proteus. Please feel free to share it with anyone, anywhere!

Evan Graham liked the forum thread, Book Bloggers and Reviews
I’ve been doing research on submitting my book to fantasy book bloggers for review. However, I’ve mostly come across bloggers who refuse to take self-published or independent press books. I’m not exactly sure where Inkshares Quill falls into this.

Any advice on locating book bloggers for fantasy books and/or locating reviewers for the book?

I’m also considering starting a book review blog of my own for Inkshares and other independent press authors. I wonder if a lot of bloggers have stopped accepting manuscripts from self-published authors because they are inundated with them?
