Kendra Namednil liked an update for Detective Diaries

Hello, detectives!

That chapter I promised is now up. There are quite a bit of similarities to Amani’s point-of-view, but if you read carefully you’ll see changes. As far as the different styles of point-of-view between Maxwell and Amani, I do that because it represents Amani reading into Maxwell’s life at that moment from his dairy. Amani isn’t aware about a lot things about her father, and he isn’t going to say everything right away. So, you get to see it through two perspectives and it brings more significance to the dairy. So, everything may be confusing at first, but there’s a reason for everything!

Also, apologies if this is late for people or super early. Getting back into writing and meeting a deadline is seriously kicking my butt, but I gotta do it! I hope you enjoy it!

Sincerely,

Anthony Jones III

    Editing update!

I was thrilled to begin the editing portion of production, but I had no idea it would be this amazing. (I mean, I guess I did a little, because Inkshares posted their production process here.) I’m in the "story architecture" portion of the developmental edit. What this means is that my editor (the incredible Matt Harry, author of "Sorcery for Beginners," which you can check out here) started challenging me right off the bat. He threw great questions at me regarding what I want to say with my book and how I can make each character more meaningful in the story.

Long story short, I’m restructuring the story.

This is a GREAT thing, believe me. It does not offset the current release date aim of February/March of 2018, as long as I put in the work. And so far, I certainly have. In the two weeks since production has started, I redesigned the story into a four-page structure, and my editor, my beta readers, and I all see this becoming a story that is vastly improved and will be a fun read.

    Personally, I’m over the moon.

At first, I’ll admit, being challenged on my own story and being presented with difficult questions was frustrating. Then I realized that pulling together a new and improved version is better for everything all around. This is a process I would not have gotten at a traditional publisher. Any other publisher would have simply helped me clean up the story I submitted. Working with Matt Harry makes me feel like I’m in a writer’s room and I’m the lead writer. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks working on the new and improved Mr. Butler, and I am sure that you all will enjoy the final product all the more.

What’s next? I’m expanding my story structure into individual chapters with summaries describing what will occur in each chapter. Then Matt will go over everything with me and help me tighten the story up.

After that, it’s rewriting time! I am excited to write this story. It’s going to flow quickly.

With the detailed treatment my little book is getting already, I truly feel like a contest winner. And I won thanks to all of your support. Thank you.

I will let you know when the chapter summaries are finished and I’m moving on to getting this adventure down onto pages. Until then, just know that I love you all.

And if you haven’t preordered, you can here. Thank you for your support everyone.

    -Michael.

Kendra Namednil liked an update for Rule Britannia

        Hello all!

The updates have slowed a tad as my day job has entered a busy period, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as I am taking two weeks leave over Easter - that means lots of time to eat chocolate and work on Rule Britannia.

I’ve also booked Rule Britannia in for a development edit with an editor who was recommended to me - Lorelei Logsdon, which is a great opportunity for a completely fresh set of eyes on the story from go to woah. The manuscript will go off to her on 29 May and I will have it back a week later.

Between now and then I’m adding a couple of extra chapters that I think will fill in some gaps that are bugging me.

Could I ask something of you?  It’s that time of month again when syndicates start nominating books that warrant support.  So when you’re thinking of your syndicate nominations this week, could you to take a moment to consider nominating Rule Britannia?

And finally - here’s my pick of the week(ish)!

        Human Resources by Robert Batten
After a viral apocalypse, corporations run by vampires create heavily guarded city-states to preserve the human race - as a subjugated food supply.

This is a fantastic piece of post-post-apocalypse fiction (a new sub-genre?), it’s a fun and well-paced read with rich characters that grab you from the start.  Not to mention that it won the LaunchPad comp for 2016 so there are already many wonderful things on the way for the story and Robert - don’t miss your chance to say you were on board from the start!

        ’till next time,
        Helen.

          Campers!

The Advanced Reader Copies or Galleys (that’s what they call them in the industry) are going out in the mail this week to different critics and endorsers. This is exciting because this is the first time that the book is in print. Check it out! I think Inkshares did an amazing job on the cover. The colors and design are spot on for a young adult book. I can’t wait to hold this in my hands.

These Galleys aren’t for sale and this isn’t the final version of the book, but it is close to the final version. Your copy will come in the mail or in your e-mail on August 29, 2017, until then you can now enjoy the updated first two chapters at this link by clicking read:

Lots of exciting stuff is happening. I can’t wait for you to read the final book. So far people are loving it...

"Sunshine is Forever is surprisingly relatable. Keeps you on the edge of your seat! Very suspenseful." - Amber Portwood, author of Never Too Late, reality star of Teen Mom OG

"Savagely entertaining. It’s The Bell Jar meets Chuck Palahniuk—Cowan tackles teen angst with his own unforgettable brand of dark humor." - Helena Echlin, author of Gone and co-author of Sparked

"Cowan has the guts to take teen suicide and turn it into a darkly comic page turner in an unexpected camp setting." - Malena Watrous, author ofIf You Follow Me and co-author of Sparked

"Deep, truthful, and raw, Sunshine is Forever is a book that every school library should carry. This is my favorite book so far of 2017." — Dave Barrett, author of It’s All Fun and Games, winner of the Nerdist Collection Contest

"Kyle T. Cowan’s Sunshine is Forever is a powerful examination of teenage angst, sort of a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for young Millennials. This is a tough story but it’s also one that’s filled with hope. A wholly impressive debut." - Jason Pomerance, author of Women Like Us

Keep telling your friends about Sunshine is Forever and look for it on August 29th. Thank you so much!

Kendra Namednil liked an update for APEX

            Dear Readers,

I had my first phone call with my editor, and I’m inspired to dive in and keep things rolling. I have a major edit in front of me,but I’ve made it through about a third of the manuscript adding my initial thoughts on how to tweak and revise the story. I’ll finish that within the week, and then I’ll start the writing, which should go quickly as I’ll know the path.

I’ve been nominated as this month’s pick for the Rites of Passage syndicate, and I’m truly honored. If you’re a member of that syndicate (and if you’re not, you should join), please take a look at my updated book page and revised Prologue, as well as the awesome video trailer by Christopher Lee, and consider voting for me. I’d be thrilled to have your support and the publicity that winning would bring to my first novel, APEX.

            Cheers, Debbie

Kendra Namednil liked an update for Tales From Mist Lake

All stories have been updated except the final tale that ties in all previous 12 stories together. I have been busy promoting the pre-orders. Still set at just 2, I hope things will pick up. I am also trying to rework a Voice over recording of ’Mirror House" with a woman narrating if that does not work out, I will release the version I recorded.

Please share and spread the word of Mist Lake. Listen to "The Thing From Mist Lake" on youtube. It is the first story that will set the way things go down at the lake. Most of the stories happen in the same year or time frame. With the exception of a few. Can you figure out the connection between those who visit the lake?

Things will proceed as planned for a release if inkshares does not work out, I hope they can help me set it to change for paperback option. I will work on another funding platform to help pay for an editor.

Kendra Namednil liked an update for The Walls are Closing In

Happy Easter! The Walls are Closing In just passed the 500 order mark - 250 to go!

A very special thank you to those of you that have gone back and ordered a few more, and to all of the complete strangers who have taken a leap of faith. It will all be worth it when walking through a bookstore, spotting The Walls are Closing In on a shelf, and knowing that each and every one of you helped put it there.

I am committed to chugging with all of my might until that 750 line is passed, and I am feeling confident that it will happen. So, if you know that 1, 2 (or, you know, 250) of your closest friends or relatives would like the topicality and would jump on the chance to support an emerging author if you asked, you know what to do! Remember, the campaign ends as soon as that 750th order is placed!

As promised, may I present the limited edition bookmarks that I will be placing en route to your mailbox once the campaign ends (a little instant gratification for before embarking on the production process ride-along).

If you would like one, please send me your address at your earliest convenience so that I can eagerly begin creating an envelope tower. If you don’t get back to me, I will do my best to convince the lovely folks at Inkshares to place them in the paperbacks prior to shipping.

                  Until next time! -Jacqui

Kendra Namednil liked an update for Sorcery for Beginners

                    Friends, Readers, and Sorcerers All,

It’s been a couple weeks since our last update, but for good reason: Sorcery for Beginners has finally been shipped to the copy editor! For all intents and purposes, the last draft of the book has been completed. There may be some small final tweaks, but my last major pass on the story went out last Wednesday.

I have to be honest, it’s a bit weird. I’ve been working on this novel off and on for four years, so to hit a point where there can be no more changes and tweaks feels odd. I feel good about the book, and I think it improved a lot in the last month, but there is still some George Lucas-y part of me that wonders if I should go back and make more tweaks. Maybe add some more people screaming "Nooooooo!" (Kidding.)

Juliane is hard at work on the illustrations, Kevin is working on the layout, and we’re discussing ideas for the back cover art. Very soon all the creative work on Sorcery for Beginners will be all finished, then we have to sit back and wait for the orders to come in.

But before that, I wanted to introduce you to Euphemia Whitmore. Whitmore is the mysterious, intelligent figure who owns the Codex Arcanum, and sells Owen his copy of Sorcery for Beginners. She is also the author of the original edition, which was deemed too esoteric to understand, so Juliane and I were brought in to make it more of a novel. I’d like to say it was a fun experience working with her, but it was not. She is extremely demanding and condescending toward anyone who can’t cast spells at her level. (Which is pretty much everyone.)

Still, I’m grateful to her for letting us help tell her story. I only hope she doesn’t magically erase our memories to prevent us from saying anything about the Codex Arcanum.

If you haven’t done so already, please add us to your Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble, and other favorite bookstore wish lists. It encourages them to order more books. Thanks again for all your support!
