Kendra Namednil liked an update for More Fun and Games

Hey everyone!  Happy Summer!

At least they tell us it’s summuh up here in glorious Maine.  Hard to tell with highs in the upper 60s and nights in the 40s.  At least it’s keeping the black flies down.  A little.

May 31 in Maine, Ladies and Gentlemen

So have I got some news for you!

The crowdfunding sequel to It’s All Fun and Games is now up and running!

As I mentioned in a past update, More Fun and Games has been written (for several years) and now needs the spit and polish (and in some cases massive reworking) to get it up and ready for publication.  In the meanwhile, I need your help.

Many of you rallied to It’s All Fun and Games because I harassed you, begged you, and after all, it was only five bucks.  Unfortunately (for us…financially appropriate for Inkshares), the price to support has increased - $10 for an ebook and $20 for the paperback.  This is a bigger commitment, for sure, so I don’t feel comfortable doing the same level of begging.  Having said that, I would really appreciate your tossing a few bucks my way.

Also unfortunately, this isn’t part of a contest, which means no getting the big win on a near miss (that is, the target of 750 copies is much more firm than it was last time).  So even if you don’t feel like you can preorder a copy, if you know anyone who liked the first book and would be willing to pitch in on the sequel, please spread the word.  Do you know someone who runs an indie bookstore?  Rope ‘em on in.  Are you a Reality TV family with 19 children (and counting)?  All the rug rats need a copy, maybe two.

I will continue to post updates from both projects, so for those of you following both, I apologize for the spam.  I’m hopeful that over the summer we’ll be able to get enough momentum to get the process up and running and the sequel out in a timely fashion.

As always, I am humbled by both the kind words and the financial support of my first novel.

Thank you!

Dave

Kendra Namednil liked an update for Human Resources

The developmental edit for Human Resources continues. During the last month I completed Act One of the rewrite, handing it over to Inkshares and my editor to review and "course correct" before pushing on.

I’m lucky to be working with such an engaged team who are working tirelessly to help me transform my rough-cut stone into a sparkling gem (of dark adventure). After reviewing the updated Act One, we have more changes to implement as we focus in on the core themes of the novel. That means a slight pause on the rewrite itself while the outline is tweaked further, then back into it with gusto.

I think it’s been a few updates since I thanked you all. I have this opportunity because of your generosity, and I won’t forget it. Thank you — for your belief, support, and patience. This process is a marathon, but I’m continuing to drive through it and each day brings us closer to physical books rolling off the production line.

BTW: If you haven’t seen it, Inkshares have a sci-fi themed competition running right now in partnership with Nerdist (https://www.inkshares.com/contests/nerdist-sci-fi-contest). There’s some great novels being pitched, so it’s worth checking out.

I hope you all had an amazing Month — I’ll be back with another update at the end of June.

Kendra Namednil liked an update for APEX

        Dear Readers and Followers,

Good news! I have recently completed a detailed outline of my reworked manuscript. It took several attempts with a stack of index cards (each containing a single scene) to get the story just right. I’ve focused and tightened the story itself, and I’ve done considerable work on my characters and their motivations, too. Now, I’m awaiting feedback on the outline before I launch into the actual rewriting of the manuscript, which will be part revising and part new words on paper.

I’ve also been doing a lot of reading about writing in order to develop my skills as a storyteller, and I think APEX will benefit from the time I’m spending on that front as well. Thank you for your continued patience.

As a side note and shout out, I’m very proud of my fellow writers on Inkshares and the projects they’re working on right now, including Tal Klein, Ferd Crotte, Jane-Holly Meissner, Craig Munro, and Regina McMenomy. Just type in their name on Inkshares, and you’ll see what I mean. They’re participating in contests, hosting book signings, releasing novels after years of hard work, and so forth. It’s all very exciting and inspires me every day to keep pursuing my own projects.

        Cheers, Debbie

Kendra Namednil liked an update for The Bones of the Past

Today is Publication Day for the Bones of the Past!

It has been a very, very long road to get to this point: I started writing what would eventually become the Books of Dust and Bone in January 2010. I made my way to Inkshares in late 2015 and launched my funding campaign on December 18. With support from you, my readers, I managed to place in the top 3 of the Sword and Laser contest (The Sequel) and on January 15, 2016 won a publication deal. Today, the book is available in hundreds of brick and mortar stores across North America, not to mention a number of online retailers worldwide.

I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you, and I sincerely hope you enjoy the final product!

Once you have had a chance to read The Bones of the Past, I would really appreciate a review! Reviews are the single most important factor in the continued success of a book. Just a short note (a sentence or 2 is all it takes!) to tell other people what you thought really can make all the difference. Those who would like to help even more – please copy and paste your review to all of the sites listed below!

Kendra Namednil liked an update for The Last Faoii

              Updates, Faoii! Listen up!

As we get closer to publication day, I’ve noticed more excitement in the ranks. People are beginning to spread the word again, and more soldiers are coming to pick up their blades. As such, I’ve decided we need a minute to go back to the beginning.

For those of you who don’t already know this story, let me tell you how The Last Faoii came to be. I woke up from a dead sleep one night in 2012, wandered out to my living room, and typed out about 25 pages on my laptop. I didn’t know then how common this midnight writing would become as I worked to tell Faoii-Kaiya’s tale. But, even from the beginning, I knew this story wanted to be told.

Today, those original 25 pages have been cleaned up and tweaked, but they, for the most part, remain true to the original story that sparked Faoii five years ago. Now separated into three chapters, I’ve uploaded the beginning of Kaiya’s journey to Inkshares, (alongside the excerpts that are already there).

Since The Last Faoii manuscript is currently with its new editor, I cannot guarantee that these chapters will not change in the future, but you deserve to see them as they were when The Last Faoii was just a spark of inspiration in the middle of the night. I hope you enjoy.
