G. Derek Adams liked an update for Moonlight and the Magician

Hi all! I've got some exciting updates today!

I've been busy these last few weeks with my son (4 months old next Friday) but things have been simmering on the backburner here at Inkshares.

We now have less than 60 days to finish funding the book and I would love it if we could push the preorders to the e-book level! That means I have less than 2 months to get nearly 200 more preorders! Woah. So let's get cracking...!

First of all, I wanted to share with you all the amazingly sexy new cover illustration I commissioned from one of my favorite artists  - Jayd Aït-Kaci aka Chira!

Isn't it fantastic?! Please check out Jayd's other work on her collective website Little Foolery and follow her on Tumblr.

Now, for every preorder you can nab a sweet postcard sized print of this illustration! If you have already preordered, please fill out this form to receive your free print! If you haven't preordered, get on it!

Secondly, I wanted to let everyone know that the folks at Inkshares were kind enough to allow me to change my book type from hardcover to paperback for a more affordable book! If any of you ordered the hardback, you will have received Inkshares credit for the difference in cost. Go forth and order more books!

Last but not least, I wanted to let everyone know that I have submitted my book to the Tubby & Coo's collective! Hopefully I will find out if I've been accepted into the 10 finalists by the end of January! Here's hoping!

Thanks again for your support! Have a great rest of the week!

Sincerely,

Erin

    G. Derek Adams liked an update for The Children of the Forest

    Hello everybody!

I don't have much time so I'll be keeping this brief, although I have a lot to talk about! The S&L contest is over, and unfortunately The Children of the Forest did not take one of the top 3 places. I'm still very proud that the novel managed to hold onto 5th. With the contest finished, the grind goes on.

I decided to bring in an outside pair of eyes to help detail the opening parts of the book, and thankfully, the ever-incredible John Robin took the time to help edit and offer constructive criticism and advice for the book. I've updated Chapters 1-5 to reflect the changes to the story, and I'm quite happy with the results. John Robin is of course the author of "Blood Dawn," which is also funding on Inkshares, and if you haven't yet, you should immediately check out his work. It's fantastic.

Looking ahead, I've restructured the rewards and information for The Children of the Forest, and anticipate the outline provided on the book's Inkshares page will be the model I hold to for the remainder of its funding duration. Due to a combination of critical and fan feedback, I truly believe in the story and characters more than ever, and intend to fight and claw my way to the 750 sales required to see a full publishing deal realized.

This is the point where I'd like to implore anyone who has followed me or look my work previously (and this goes double for those of you who have passed on pre-ordering) to give the book another chance. The chapters have been cleaned up or else "fixed" and they all read amazingly-well. Further still, I've added more rewards and services to give early-backers extra incentives to pre-order.

Lastly, I just want to let everyone know that the Amazon prize drawing is still scheduled to take place. Due to unforeseen developments I was not able to find the time to enter all of your information into a random generator. I will be taking care of this tonight or tomorrow, at which time the winner's name will be announced!

I guess that's it for now, so until next time, everyone be safe and enjoy the updates! ~

*What is truth? I am a secretive writer, and much of the Grand Plot of Spell/Sword still lies in shadow. This is your chance to ask me one question about the books that I have to answer truthfully and fully to the best of my ability. Or I guess you could waste it asking me about my political views or something? It’s your nickel.

Consistency and structure aren't exactly my friends, but even with my chaos-loving ways I do have some tendencies.
I approach writing the same way I approach my artwork (I'm a painter), meaning that I constantly switch back and forth between two modes; inspiration dumping and self-editing/study. Inspiration dumping is getting all of the ideas that pop into my head down on paper. This is usually the characters, certain aspects of the world, most of the dialogue, some of the descriptions, many of the plot points. Self-editing/study is when I step back and apply some critical thinking. The timelines, themes, how things relate to each other, how things function, making lists and diagrams, and anything that might be missing. Research also falls into this category. I don't do research for every project, but when I do, I become obsessive.
The other tendency that carries over from painting is that I "work the whole canvas," meaning that I write the beginning, middle, and end concurrently.
