Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Black Cloud

Hello Everyone,

I know it’s been a long time since you heard anything from me which probably seems strange since I’m supposed to be working my butt off selling pre-orders. I have not been doing that. In fact, I’m writing today to tell you that I’m closing down the pre-order campaign for Black Cloud. You should all be receiving a full refund shortly. If you don’t, please contact Inkshares and they’ll work it out for you.

There are several reasons I’m choosing to end this campaign. Some are good reasons, some are probably not so good. In short life has been busy and I just don’t have it in me to run a successful campaign right now. There are other reasons but it boils down to that. The book needs work and the campaign needs work. I don’t have the time to commit to either. I thought I could make it work but I was wrong.

So let me just say this: thank you for following the book. Thank you for pre-ordering if you did. I really appreciate the support and I hope this book will end up in your hands one day soon be it through Inkshares or some other means.

In the meantime you can always check out my first book. Which I am in the process of submitting to Audible this week. So hopefully it will be an official audiobook soon.

Thank you!   - Landon

WE’RE ROUNDING THE CORNER TO THE NEXT PHASE OF EDITING!!!

Oh my patient readers, supporters, and followers...it is an exciting time in the world of this book. The first phase of developmental editing is coming to a close, and the complete structure of the book is receiving its finishing touches. This means that phase 2: rewrite will begin this week!

That’s not as bad as it sounds, perhaps. The writing is the best part! The planning and research, now that is some difficult stuff, indeed. My editor, the incredible Matt Harry, has assisted me in restructuring the book into a story that is great fun. Have things changed a lot? Yes, indeed they have. But all of it is for the better. The story is fairly, well, unrecognizable when compared with previous sketches, but all is improved. I am proud of this story, its characters, its themes, and its presentation.

And this is why I’m updating you. I’ve put the new and improved synopsis up on the homepage, and I’d love for you to check it out. Click here to see everything. I’m going with what Matt said about the book. He called it "a really fun space adventure that reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy and Rick and Morty." Yup. That’s just about exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps with a little Hitchhiker’s Guide thrown in, but I think we all want to say that about our books.

If you have trouble seeing the page or if you’d rather not click on a new link, I’ve pasted the pitch and summary below. I would love your feedback.

    So, writing/rewriting begins this week!

Thanks for hanging in there, and thanks for your support of this little dream of mine.

    -Michael

    The Madness of Mr. Butler

    Preorder here: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-madness-of-mr-butler

    Comparisons:

Guardians of the Galaxy meets Rick and Morty

    Pitch:

After helping a psychiatric patient escape the hospital, a burned out ER nurse and his girlfriend are swept away on an intergalactic thrill ride to save Earth from annihilation at the hands of a blood thirsty space pirate.

    About:

The Voyager probes were sent out into the universe to give any alien life an idea of what things are like on Earth, and they were built under the assumption that any intelligent life they encountered would be curious and peaceful. In the past week, one of the probes has gone AWOL and the other seems to be headed straight back to Earth with some sort of alien megastructure attached. Hindsight is always 20/20, but it’s really a shame the probes included coordinates to Earth. Now, the world is panicking as an alien force is bounding toward our pale blue dot, making it difficult to assume anything other than destruction is on its agenda.

This general feeling of impending doom by the general public is not helping George Butler feel any better about his life. He is a burned out nurse at the busiest ER in the greater Cleveland area, and this "end is near" vibe sweeping the world has only quadrupled his patient load. On top of this, his girlfriend Eliza has been increasingly nervous and distant recently, and George fears that she is thinking of ending the relationship. All George wants to do is finish out his shift and spend some time with Eliza, hopefully convincing her to stay with him.

The last patient George sees is the cherry on top of a shit sundae of a workday. The man claims to be from another planet (the fifth patient that day to claim such a thing) and will only go by "Mr. Butler" after stealing George’s last name from his ID badge. The patient goes on and on and won’t let George leave the room, claiming ridiculous things such as flying a spaceship shaped like a Victorian-style home with a lovely wraparound porch, and landing said ship directly on top of George’s own house. After finally cutting off the conversation and dodging every manipulative attempt by his charge nurse to convince him to stay and work, George finally gets to go on his date with Eliza.

It’s mostly a nice date, but the fact that the date was to celebrate their dating anniversary slips George’s mind. That makes things a little awkward.

That, and the fact that George’s plans to bring Eliza to his house to cuddle up in front of a movie are ruined by the fact that there’s an enormous Victorian-style house sitting right where George’s house once stood.

And is that one of the Voyager probes lodged in its lovely wraparound porch?

    About the book

This book is meant to be taken seriously. At all costs. If you are offended by comedy or ridiculous situations, then you’ve come to the right place, because I’ve taken great care in my research to design The Madness of Mr. Butlerto be as scientifically accurate as possible. I’ve performed all feats in this book, or at least had a friend try them and tell me what it was like, and what I couldn’t accomplish I Googled, so it’s all factual as hell.

Think planets can’t be miniaturized? They can be. I’ve met a guy who said he did it once. He was playing the saxophone on the side of the street and only charged me a dollar and a ham salad sandwich for the information. That’s a bargain.

Think space pirates don’t exist? Well, tell that to a space pirate. They might not call themselves space pirates, per se, but they will exist nevertheless.

Think throwing a reaction bomb into the sun and then riding the resulting supernova away from danger is a silly idea? Then you obviously haven’t tried it. I’ll admit it’s a difficult thing to do, but with enough Googling, anything is possible.

The Madness of Mr. Butler is mostly biography. Sure, there are some embellishments, as biographies are mostly boring without a little flair mixed in. But the facts are factual, and the science is so hard, you won’t believe it. Trust me.

You should order this book if you care about the reason the Earth is safe from one of the greatest threats it has ever faced and learning about the people who stepped up to face the threat we faced to its face.

What are you waiting for? Harder science? More operatic space?

The Madness of Mr. Butler is a hard space opera so hard with facts the book doubles as a weapon because of its hardness.

I’d say more, but I know you’ve already bought a copy. Thanks for caring about facts.

And no laughing, unless you laugh hard.

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Beyond The Code

      BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!

I first want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have followed Beyond the Code to this point. I know it has been a long road and you don’t know what it means to me that you all have stuck in there with me. With that being said i have a big announcement to make. WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE!!!

That’s right, after this lengthy journey we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Inkshares has officially put this project into gear and the complete manuscript is in the capable hands of Chersti and Carlisa at WriterTherapy for it’s copy edit as we speak.

If all goes according to Inkshares schedule, the book should be out and about by       January 30/18.

During this time i’ll also be getting some great cover art made by the talented people at CoverKitchen. They are the minds behind the colourful cover art to Inkshares very own "Sunshine is forever" by Kyle T Cowan. I’ll keep you updated on the progress and will hopefully have something cool to show you soon.

Thanks again for all of your support thus far. I, for one, can’t wait till the winter.

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

Yesterday I got the clearance from editing master extraordinaire Matt Harry to start writing my final draft of Deus Hex Machina. Today I built my new editing scene list to help as a roadmap for what I’ll be doing for the next month. As you can see, most of the book is changing in some way, although a lot of the changes are going to be minor.  I love this part of the process: Getting to dive into the book, polish up the rough edges and round out the wonky corners. It’s like falling in love with the story in a completely new way.

I’m unsure what happens once I’m done with this draft, so for the moment I’m going to assume that I go into an edit phase like the rest of my cohort. My guess is that such an edit will be very brief because we spent so much time upfront preparing for the 4th draft writing phase.

I can’t help but smile to think how far Isidore RAM has come. I am so proud of this little book, I can’t wait for you to get a chance to read it.

        Cheers,

        Amanda

          Hi everyone,

This weekend I had an amazing event at Austin’s Book People. Each book store I’ve visited thus far has exemplified the unique literary flare of its city, and Book People did not disappoint. The highlight, for me, was receiving a watermelon carving of The Punch Escrow’s cover. I sent it to M.S. Corley, the cover designer, and he and I agreed that we should have shipped all the books with watermelon rind covers in lieu of foil. Unfortunately, this was not a stock option offered by our printer.

Many of you have been asking me about the "secret" chapter. I am very close to releasing it to you. I have every intention of keeping my word that, as soon as we hit  101 reviews on Amazon, I will send a special out-of-band reader update containing the "secret" chapter. In the mean time, with the help of my friend and 22nd century legal expert Jay Wolman, I’m taking this opportunity to "clean up" some of the future legalese. There are 727 of you on this distribution, only 26 of you who haven’t yet need to post a review on Amazon, and the "secret" chapter is yours! Also! More exciting movie news is forthcoming this week. I am sworn to secrecy (sorry for being so clandestine lately), but the news should be public on the early side of the week (I hope!).

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Rune of the Apprentice

Baby Freya is now 2 months old! Jeez! The past few months has been a whirlwind of love, excitement, family, and sleep deprivation!

(Full post can be read on my blog HERE to see future posts sign up to my newsletter HERE)

Despite the newfound groggy-eyed joys of fatherhood, I have still been hard at work not only on RUNE’s sequel (Oath of the Apprentice), but also on an exciting new Indie Video Game project called Shadow of the Moon (which takes place chronologically between The Rune Chronicles books 1 and 2). I’m so excited to tell you about this game I’m shaking... Or is that the coffee which is currently keeping me awake?! The world may never know...

Many of you might remember Shadow of the Moon from the collaborative Inkshares video game anthology I was a part of called Too Many Controllers. Yes, that same book which "won" the Nerdist and Inkshares Video Game Publishing Contest. (And yes, thanks for asking, I am still sore about the book being canned.) Well, some friends and I were talking about how TMC being canceled shouldn’t be the death of such a great story. We were sad, however, because Shadow of the Moon was written with video game mechanics at its core, and therefore, did not really read well (make sense) as a stand alone literary work.

I kept on trying to figure out a way around this because Shadow of the Moon’s female protagonist, Zera, is featured heavily as a main character in The Rune Chronicles Book 2: Oath of the Apprentice. I could not get over how cool Zera’s background and unique motivations were and desperately wanted readers to have a chance, if they were interested, to know more about her and why she was such a bad ass. Sadly, try as I might, I could not find a good fix to the logistical story problems and was stumped for months!

Well, during the days following Freya’s birth I came to the crazy conclusion that if I could not "write" a solution for the story dilemma, the only "logical" course of action was to actually turn Shadow of the Moon into a full fledged indie video game! GG EZ Fix!

I must have been profoundly sleep deprived because changing mediums would add a huge, exponential multiplier to the amount of work required. Like, There are no words which can adequately describe how much more effort making a video game, even an indie, will be. But I have been working on this project for two months now, and trust me folks, Zera’s story is, hot damn, well worth it! Truly.

Seen above is Zera, the protagonist of Shadow of the Moon, and I have so much more I’m dying to share with you all! We have art, game design mechanics, real to life martial arts, and even code for our custom SDL game engine (which should run a playable demo soon.) Its crazy awesome how much cool shit will be in this game! And the story, oh how the story has grown and evolved!

All of this is thanks to our amazingly talented team. Despite my sleepless nights, I have been able to gather a super dedicated group over at Apotheosis Studios to help me transform my novella into a Rogue-like Action-Adventure, 2D Top Down, RPG Video Game of epic, pixelated proportions! (Think Hyper Light Drifter meets Darkest Dungeon meets Bastion. Yes, you heard me right--we are not fucking around. This game is the real deal.)

I am leading this fearless indie dev team as Creative Director/Writer and so far we have 2 other writers/designers, 1 programmer, 1 editor/marketer, 2 "interns", a wolf, and a viking baby! What could possibly go wrong?!?! If you want to join our ranks, hit me up at @StoneJamison  (Currently we are looking for a pixel and/or sprite artist, and music composer, btw!)

I’m also super excited to say that I will documenting our game progress on my blog HERE with an Apotheosis Studios Indie Game Dev Blog Series! I have so much more to share (and some really killer art) but will save those additional details about the game for the "official" blog series, so stay tuned! And yes, I will be doing all of this with a new baby. Many believe I have lost my mind, which if true, should make this game and RUNE’s sequel pretty freaking awesome, haha!

All jokes aside, buckle up Masters and Apprentices and get ready for many more blog posts to come. I am so excited to not only share developments and updates on Shadow of the Moon game development, but also how my wife and I raise our Viking Ninja baby girl.

And in case you are wondering how one raises a little Viking Ninja baby girl in 2017... Well, I’m not really sure, but I figure age and gender appropriate toys (swords, obviously!); good role models (bad ass active duty Army musician mommy and Zera of Shadow of the Moon!); and a loving, strong, and supportive daddy (I’m still growing out my "Ragnar Viking haircut") is a good place to start!

Stay tuned via my news letter HERE and I’ll let you know how it all goes!

Oh, and P.S. if you have not yet posted a review for Rune of the Apprentice on Amazon Dear god, please do so! We currently have 66 reviews, but need 100+! It really helps! Seriously! Thank you!
