Kendra Namednil liked an update for Mushroom and Anchovy

Greetings, adventurers!

 A bit of a slower week compared with last week, but still a good one. We’re getting closer and closer to the end, with just a bit over a week to go and 93 preorders to go at time of writing. It’ll be very close but I think we’ll be able to sneak right in, just in time.

 A quick note: please double check your orders to make sure you’ll get your book! If you’ve had any problems with your orders, please make sure to reach out to hello@inkshares.com.

 This is a big reminder about the contest! You can win a $50 Amazon gift card! You get one entry just for preordering, then an extra one for every preorder, extra entries for Facebook shares of the post, and more. All the details are in the pinned post over on my Facebook page.

Could I ask a favour of all of you this week? Could you please message a friend or family member that might enjoy this book and tell them a bit about it? When you do, please make sure to click “share” on the book’s page to generate your personal referral code for Inkshares credits! Make sure you’re logged in to Inkshares and click “Share” on Mushroom and Anchovy’s page to share your referral link.

The reason for this is that one-on-one conversations have been, in my experience, the best way to get results in the campaign.

 At this time, we have to turn all this pressure into diamonds. And like the treasure hunters in this book, we’ve gotta hunt those diamonds down and claim them as our own! Or... something like that.

 Thanks for everything, adventurers. I’m really grateful to have so many of you joining me on this, and I’m really floored by the amount of people who have been preordering so far. Thank you!

 May your adventures be fraught with wonder and just enough peril to keep them interesting,

 K. M. Cooper

    Kendra Namednil liked an update for APEX

    Hello Dear Readers,

    Progress! I have been working through the storyboard for APEX with Inkshares, which has taken several iterations, but we’re getting very close to a final version. Then, I’ll get the green light to proceed with rewriting the manuscript.

    It’s been an interesting and enlightening journey. I started this novel about nine years ago, then abandoned it at about one third done when my personal life became a chaotic mess for a while. When I tried to pick up the story again a few years later, I found that I couldn’t, that I’d lost my motivation and discipline to write daily, so I applied to the Stanford Online Writing Certificate program. It’s a two year, intensive program on fiction novel writing, which taught me a ton about the craft of writing. In the process of taking these classes, however, my book was heavily influenced by what I was learning and the opinions of my instructors and peers and thus changed dramatically (including POV characters, backstory, and motivations).

    Now, with the help of Inkshares, all of that influence has been stripped away and I’m back to a version that is strikingly similar to my original story. I don’t regret a single tangent that I went on, as each taught me something valuable, and the overall quality of my book has improved from everything I’ve learned, but it does make me laugh to realize, "Huh, this is what I intended to write back in 2009!" Being in Stanford’s program is what allowed me to finish my manuscript and improved me as a writer overall, but I now know my own instincts for storytelling are what I should follow when I write.

    When I’m given the go ahead, I’ll be excited to dive in and get this story written in its new, old version!

    Cheers, Debbie

          Kendra Namednil liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

          Yesterday I got the clearance from editing master extraordinaire Matt Harry to start writing my final draft of Deus Hex Machina. Today I built my new editing scene list to help as a roadmap for what I’ll be doing for the next month. As you can see, most of the book is changing in some way, although a lot of the changes are going to be minor.  I love this part of the process: Getting to dive into the book, polish up the rough edges and round out the wonky corners. It’s like falling in love with the story in a completely new way.

          I’m unsure what happens once I’m done with this draft, so for the moment I’m going to assume that I go into an edit phase like the rest of my cohort. My guess is that such an edit will be very brief because we spent so much time upfront preparing for the 4th draft writing phase.

          I can’t help but smile to think how far Isidore RAM has come. I am so proud of this little book, I can’t wait for you to get a chance to read it.

          Cheers,

          Amanda

            Hi!

            Exciting news to share.  "Fury From Hell" is now a part of the Inkshares Horror contest!  I decided to put this novel in the running since it is in my book’s genre.  FFH went LIVE late in the day yesterday and before the day closed 3 wonderful people pre-ordered it!  Those initial sales from:

            * Susan K. Hamilton

            * Robert Batten

            * William Schiele

            pushed the book to the #10 spot on the leaderboard out of 60 submissions!

            Thank you Susan, Robert and Bill!  I truly appreciate the early book love. :-)

            So, if you’re so inclined, please take a moment to read the first 12 chapters and pre-order your copy today!

              Kendra Namednil liked an update for Fortunes of the Space Sloth

              Greetings Followers of the Space Sloth,

              *drum roll please*

              Fortunes of the Space Sloth is in the Top 50 of the Launch Pad Manuscript Contest! I’m very happy with its performance and the apparent interest in the story.

              The story was originally finished as part of the Nerdist Space Opera competition nearly 18 months ago. In the time since then I’ve added a couple short stories to the universe. Now that it’s in the Launch Pad competition I’ve been spending more time work on the draft and doing some mental world building. I have to admit I’ve missed the story and characters. It’s fun getting back into it.

              As part of Inkshares’ partnership with Launch Pad the story is now back in funding mode. However, the timing isn’t great. I’m in the process of trying to wrap up the Quill goal on a separate story. So this will be a completely stress free have fun with the story campaign. Post a review or ask a question about the story. Is there something about the Space Sloth world you’re wondering about? Maybe I’ll post a short story on that topic…

There will be other giveaways at future milestones and I’ll share more as we get closer, and don’t forget -- anyone who orders three or more books will get entered in a special raffle at the end of the contest IF we make it into the Top Three!
