Campaign Week 1

Day seven of the campaign and the crowdfunding competition is now drawing to a close.

It has been an intense week.

The support from my friends, family, and the community has been astounding. In seven short days, you have all ordered 125 copies of Human Resources! That is crazy — Human Resources is now 50% of the way to guaranteed publication on the Quill imprint!* What’s more, that has been enough to push the book into first place in The Launchpad Manuscript crowdfunding competition!

Unfortunately, second place has not been idle — they have been working hard to erode my lead in the competition, so we can’t slack off now! If you haven’t yet ordered a copy, it would be great if you considered doing so. Other things that are incredibly helpful are all the posts people have been making on social media, and the fantastic reviews / recommendations people have been leaving on Inkshares. Please keep it up!

I’m working on some special campaign content for the coming week -- keep an eye out for the next update :)

* If you would like to know what the Quill imprint is, and how it differs from the full Inkshares publishing service, I talk about it on my blog here.

Judges’ Top 50

Today the The Tracking Board announced the second round finalists from the formal judges stream — the Top 50. Guess what? That’s right, Human Resources made the cut!

Some more information about Inkshares

I know a number of you haven’t encountered Inkshares before, and some of you haven’t heard me speak about it before. I want to take the opportunity to familiarise everyone with the Inkshares model (my apologies for those this is old news to).

Inkshares is a book publishing company that selects the books it publishes through crowdfunding. The books not yet published on this site (i.e. Human Resources) are author drafts — they have not gone through a publisher’s editing process. When projects successfully fund, that means there is a delay before books are available for those who pre-ordered. Once a book is funded, before you receive your copy, the following must happen:

  1. The author makes final changes to their manuscript.
  2. Inkshares editors work through and enhance the manuscript with the author.
  3. The polished manuscript is published (design, production, shipping).

There is more information available on the Inkshares FAQ and on their “How it Works” page.

The short version:

  1. The excerpts you’ve all read are not the final versions.
  2. The book won’t be available immediately after the campaign finishes.
  3. You will be kept informed every step of the way.

Thank you again for your support,

Robert

    J. Graham-Jones liked an update for A Light in the Void

Guys, we’re doing great.  We’ve sold 233 books.  Two hundred thirty three.  That means we’re just 17 books away from reaching the Quill Goal and getting published, and we have a month to do it.  I don’t see how we can not do that.  Seventeen books is nothing.  Thank you guys.  I’m in absolute awe.  You all rock.  This is big.

    Let’s go bigger.

I’ve mentioned the Geek and Sundry contest before.  As a recap, if I make the top 3, I will be able to earn additional publishing and distributional support.  We need to sell 75 books in the next six days to do that.  I know, it’s a huge task.  But it’s doable.  I just need your help.

A number of you have told me privately how much you’ve enjoyed the excerpts released so far, and that’s been tremendous in keeping me motivated in pushing this campaign forward.  What would be a huge help is sharing your opinion on the books page.  There are two ways you can do that:

1). Simply go to the latest excerpt, here, and click on the star on the bottom of the screen.  That’s it.  This will highlight the book as recommended and gain more views from the Inkshares community.

2).  On the same page , instead of just clicking the star, also choose "leave a review."  This will help others see that you like it, and maybe encourage them to give my writing a chance.

Everyone, you have more than proven to me what good friends you are, and your support means everything to me.  Let’s get this past the finish line, and beyond, together.

    With deepest gratitude,

    Jarrod

All, thank you very much for the support. Gotten a couple pre-orders here and there but still a long way off from the goal of 750.  In case it doesn’t come through for some reason, I uploaded a new chapter to read.  I’ll be loading up another chapter soon, i was unfortunately sick a couple of days so I didn’t get as much time to write as I wanted.  Please enjoy. :) Tell your friends, social media, wherever you can share it to check it out.  Feel free to share the link, https://www.inkshares.com/books/that-s-werewolf-talk

        J. Graham-Jones liked an update for Frost: An Otherworld Tale

All, thank you for the support. Things have obviously not been progressing well. I owe a lot of reviews on here, which I plan to tackle in November as I do NaNoWriMo. A lot of the comments I’ve gotten on my manuscript for Frost made me realize that this wasn’t exactly the story I wanted to tell, so I’m starting over from scratch and rewriting Frost: An Otherworld Tale for NaNoWriMo.

Pregnancy brain really got to me with this campaign, along with some overwhelming discouragement. I just don’t see any way that Frost is going to be a success on Inkshares. For those of you who’ve supported me, I genuinely appreciate the support. I will be publishing Frost: An Otherworld Tale via Amazon CreateSpace & KDP in 2017.

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and support, guys.
