Cowan gives his character, Hunter, a truly believable life and an authentic (and prematurely world-weary) voice that expresses it. The first chapter alone will not only leave you wondering what happened to Hunter that made him this way, it will make you sincerely worry over what will happen to him next. ...pretty much exactly like watching a teenager grow up.
