I LOVE this little line of questions. I also love how you bring the narrative back down to the stream-of-conscious style.

*Grammatical note* "has got" should technically be "has gotten." I realize it’s stream of conscious, so you can leave it however you would think it, but I stumbled over it several times and other readers may as well.

Pardon?      What was so different at that time that matter could travel so much faster than now?      What caused it to slow down if it is currently speeding up again (see point 2.)?      In what way does this explain how the light has got back to us so quickly?      This is all more than just a little bit peculiar. It leaves a nasty aftertaste of ‘Deus ex Machina’ at the back of my throat.
