James Rasile liked an update for An Unattractive Vampire

Hahaha.

Haha.

Ha. So much news...

First of all, there have been sightings of a strange and hilarious creature, stalking local bookstores praying on the minds of readers. Witnesses have placed it at Powell’s Books in Portland...

...at Unabridged Books in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago...

...and at City Lit Books in Logan’s Square also in Chicago.

If any of these locations are near or known to you, authorities recommend you take public safety into your own hands by capturing these potentially dangerous abominations.

Yeah, so enough of that. My book is out!!! Like not officially or anything, but it can be located in physical places. That’s great.

You know what else is great? This review from Publisher’s Weekly.

What’s more...I just discovered that the review feature on Amazon is up and working for my book. Why is this important? Here’s an infographic:

So yes, between 50 and 100 reviews (another number I’ve heard thrown around for algorithms. Please, please, PLEASE...go to Amazon and leave a rating and review. Even if it’s just "I liked it" *Five Stars.* ESPECIALLY if it’s just "I liked it" *Five Stars.* If you already posted a review on Goodreads or Netgalley, copy and paste is your friend. This is incredibly important for the success of the book, especially for a first-time, unknown author such as myself.

And just a reminder again, that the official launch party for An Unattractive Vampire will be at Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records on March 18th at 7 PM. Here’s the Facebook event page so that you know this is totally a real thing and not just another black market toe harvesting scam.

Almost done.

There’s about a week left to go in the current Inkshares Space Opera contest. Once you’re done writing a rave review about how my book changed your life in ways you don’t fully comprehend, consider helping another person live this dream of stress and uncomfortable self-promotion by purchasing a book like...

The maddening tale of a so-called "round planet" in The Madness of Mr. Butler by Michael Haase
Space truckers and conspiracy in Lucky by RH Webster
The dangerous and nearly extinct human being in The Life Interstellar by Zack Jordan
Interstellar inebriation in Space Tripping by Patrick Edwards
Retro spies and rocket ships in To Live and Die in Avalon by Jason Chestnut

And again...thank you all.

    Hey everyone!

There is now one week left of the Nerdist contest and things are heating up. I want to just say a few words about that and then look to the road ahead on getting this book published and into your hands.

I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of support I’ve received for the book, but we have not been able to break the top ten, let alone the top three in the contest. The book has lingered around twentieth place for most of the duration of the contest and you know what? Out of ninety-something submissions, that’s pretty good. Heck, it’s damn good. In fact, I’m very happy for those currently occupying the top spots and glad that those books will be published without question. The Nerdist contest is what drew me here, but I’m here for the long haul, I had always prepared myself for that. There is enough room for us ALL to be winners and to see ALL of our stories become reality. Where there is a good story, there will be an audience.

Your support of my kitschy little retro superspy science fiction serial is just the first step in something I want to make into a career. You get to be a part of that and get my undying love and appreciation in the process. The experience here at Inkshares has opened my mind to all sorts of possibilities. It has allowed me to meet some wonderful writers, amazing people and be exposed to their varied storytelling styles and promotional genius. The contest may be coming to a close, but for those of us who won’t finish in the top three, the journey is far from over. Like I said, I’m here for the long haul, I’ve got tons of stories to tell and it starts right here with Penny and her adventures in Avalon. Regardless of how the campaign ends up in sixty days from now, I can say that I will never give up on being a full time writer. I have gained so much from this experience, not the least of which is the will to carry on and write and write and write and write...and share that with the world, instead of keeping it all to myself.

I have some big things in store very soon, including the posting of at least two more chapters, a BIG surprise that I’m going to turn into a contest to get those pre-orders rolling in and those cover art magnets I promised everyone should be ready to go out this week! Keep an eye on your email!

As always, feel free to reach out to me directly. THANK YOU and I LOVE YOU ALL! (no seriously, I totally do)

Physical copies have begun to ship! You’ll get a notification in your email - so check it obsessively.

We also have our first ’industry’ review in Publisher’s Weekly - and it’s...kind of a great review?

        A quick excerpt:

"An unlikely band of heroes—some of whom are trying to kill one another—must gather together in order to save their world from the return of an ancient menace in an excellent, irreverent mix of sword-and-sorcery fantasy and SF. Adams’s flippant tone recalls Terry Pratchett, taking the skewering of tropes down a very dark path as he establishes a fantasy world built from the ashes of a technological one." -- Publisher’s Weekly

I have already reread this full review several times and I’m hornswaggled.  BEFUZZLED, EVEN. The potential impact of reviews like this cannot truly be calculated. Do you smell that? It smells like the fresh Legitimacy in the oven, how weird is that?

I will also now awkwardly now segue to YOUR reviews that are even more crucial and potent. Here’s one of my many updates that yammers about it. Many of you are already reading the ebook and will be receiving the physical book in just a few days - as you finish go ahead and put up a review! You won’t be able to log them on Amazon until the book officially releases on 4/5 - but you can put them up on Goodreads whenever to ’store’ them, then it will be easy to copy and paste on launch day. YES, I know it’s a pain - please do it anyway?

More news as it comes in - and that goes for you folks as well. The moment you receive your physical copies, you best be sending me some cool pictures of you with the paperback to @gderekadams on Twitter. Or post them here - or tag me on Facebook - or attach them to a passing carrier pigeon!
