A new release announcement - what just might be my favorite story I’ve written, so far!

Book One of the Character Bleed trilogy, Seaworthy (essentially the first third of this giant 254k story), comes out tomorrow – August 1 – from JMS Books! I AM SO EXCITED  – as I mentioned, I love this whole story-world so very much, as we play with the contemporary, the historical, and the ways we fall in love with movies and characters. And books Two (Stalwart) and Three (Steadfast) will be out in September and October, respectively, to finish off the trilogy!

Seaworthy contains:

~actors falling in love while filming a gay Napoleonic War-era love story

~slow-burn mutual pining

~very much resolved sexual tension (at last!)

~lots of food/food-related puns

~the purposeful opposite of the “bury your gays” trope

~the most meaningful boot-removal scene I’ve ever written!

And look at this luscious cover art, below! And also I can promise that it comes with a brand-new, not-available-anywhere-else bonus story.

I hope you love Jason and Colby and random conversations about wizards and pastries and history and bread puns and love stories as much as I do!

Hi, all! It’s convention time, and Pride Month, and I’ll be doing some author events at the Rainbow Space Magic Virtual Convention soon! Read on for the details...

The Rainbow Space Magic Virtual Convention is happening in two weeks, June 20-21! I’ll be doing an author reading, and also on a panel about outlaws! And it’s free!

Some more details: the Rainbow Space Magic Virtual Convention is designed for LGBTQIA+ sci-fi & fantasy creators and fans - here’s the description from their website:

"...an online LGBTQ+ science fiction and fantasy convention designed to help fill the terrible empty place of canceled in-person conventions during the current crisis as well as offering an SFF convention to those readers and writers in the queer community who struggle to travel or attend physical conventions. Free to participants and convention-goers, RSM seeks to bring like-minded people together, providing LGBTQ+ readings and panels from a safe social distance."

It’s in part being run by a lovely author friend (and mastermind of the Queer SF website) J. Scott Coatsworth, and so when they were putting it together, I got asked if I wanted to join in! So...here’s my schedule:

    1) Outlaws & Adversaries Panel Discussion, Sunday June 21, 1:00pm-2:00pm EDT (or 10-11am if you’re in California like me): Angel Martinez, Kim Fielding, K.L. Noone, Vance Bastien

    2) Author Reading Panel, Sunday June 21, 7:00-8:00pm EDT (or 4-5pm if you’re in California like me): Chloe Spencer, K.L. Noone, Kellie Doherty

Come join us and hang out with a group of LGBTQIA+ sci-fi and fantasy fans and authors! Again, totally free, but they will ask you to register to receive the web links for the panels and such! Here’s the home page link, here’s the registration link, here’s the overall schedule, and here’s the Facebook event link!

Feel free to share and invite people! We’re hoping for an awesome (fantastic?) turnout! (You’ll notice some other awesome people involved...Scott, as I mentioned, but also K.S. Murphy - who you might’ve seen in a book dedication or two of mine! and who I’ll co-author with any time! - and Antonia Aquilante, and more!)

I haven’t quite decided what I’m reading yet - might be the opening of Cadence and the Pearl, or maybe something new...or both - whatever I can manage in 15 minutes! We shall see...

And one more small piece of news: yesterday I signed a contract with JMS Books for a flash fiction lesbian high fantasy erotica short!
It’s called "Honey Witch" and it’ll probably be out in August, priced at 99 cents (or 79 cents for pre-orders)! It’s about, well - an earth-witch who specializes in divination with honey, and desires, and a princess with a question, in need of some...help... And I hope you’ll like it!

Hi, readers! I hope you’re all doing well and staying safe out there! I’ve been doing a lot of writing, and I’ve got some news that - while it can’t fix the world - might offer a good distraction!

        First, look what’s out tomorrow!

It’s my first-ever SF romance (as opposed to fantasy/paranormal) short story! And it’s m/f, with bisexual main characters!

It’s the story I’ve described to people as…basically a Regency-debutante-meets-dashing-captain romance BUT IN SPACE.

And also the captain is a woman. And the person coming of age is the Emperor. And also jelly candies are important.

(In my head, by the way, there’s a subtitle, which is: “How Starship Captain Catherine Everington Became Empress of the Galaxy,” which about sums it up!)

It’s around 7k, and it’s on sale at JMS Books LLC for only $1.59, or at Amazon for $1.99!

And it’s currently at #221 in the overall LGBT Science Fiction category on Amazon! Which is pretty cool for my first-ever proper sci-fi story! (Think we can get it to go any higher…?)

Buy at Amazon here! Or at JMS Books here!

Second, the pre-order link is also up for my next super-short m/m romance - release date May 30!

This one’s part of the JMS Books Hot Flash collection, all under 5k words and always priced at 99 cents or less - right now it’s on pre-order sale at JMS for only 79 cents! 99 cents at Amazon. :-)

        "Penny" contains:

~a comfortable sort of domestic high fantasy setting

        ~a clockwork-magic kitten

        ~love confessions!

~one very cheerful newly-appointed local magician

~one big bashful artifact hunter who keeps bringing said magician all the cursed items to defuse, trying to make the kingdom safer

        ~a LOT of mutual pining

        ~one confession-spell magic coin…

Pre-order at Amazon here! Or at JMS Books here!

That’s all for now - sending you all the love!

Today is the book release day for Cadence and the Pearl!

If you’ve seen me mention this one, you’ll know how much I love it – it’s my next proper full-length novel (just over 60k), and it’s full of ocean magic, and opera plots, and the Northern Isles, and merpeople, and a schoolteacher with a secret, and homecomings, and second chances, and, oh, a whole lot of enchanted things…

I also really love my language and writing in this one – is that odd to say, as the author? I do, though! I was aiming for a tone that’s very…almost nineteenth-century (but modern in word choice and sentence structure!), very fairytale, Lord Dunsany, Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, Susanna Clarke, and full of magic. And I hope you love it as much as I do!

Buy Cadence at JMS Books (on sale for 20% off – only $3.99!) here! Or at Amazon here (for $4.99)! Or Barnes & Noble here! Or anywhere else you might like to buy books!

In other upcoming story news, I have two short stories in the works at JMS – one a return to m/f (with bisexual protagonists) romance, and one a super-short fluffy m/m fantasy confection!

The m/f story is called “Of Starlit Balls and Starship Captains,” and it’s scheduled for May 9 – it’s essentially Jane Austen meets space opera, with a coming-of-age ball, a Galactic Emperor in need of a bride, and a very grumpy starship captain who’d rather wear her uniform than a gown...

The m/m short (part of the JMS Hot Flash line, priced at 99 cents and under 5k) is called “A Penny for Your Thoughts,” and it’s scheduled for May 30 – it’s high fantasy, with a magical artifact hunter (with a big soft heart) who finds cursed items and brings them to the local magician (who he’s secretly in love with) to help cleanse of dark magic…and, of course, the latest artifact happens to be a coin with a truth-telling confession spell on it…and it just might turn out the feelings are mutual…I’ll update with book covers for those two stories once I’ve got them!

Finally, a book rec – the utterly wonderful Rock and Roll Chose Me by K.S. Murphy, which is contemporary m/m romance with main characters who feel so fantastically real, and who we care about so deeply, even when they make mistakes – they grow and learn and try, and they deserve their happy ending. And the side characters are delightful too! Here’s the Amazon link, though you can also pick it up from JMS Books, BN, etc.

Just a quick update, with some new release news, and a book rec!

Refuge at Clifftop is out now – 18k of superheroes (including one supersoldier, one former sidekick, and one former villain), established-relationship m/m/m polyamory, a stormy night and a difficult mission, at least one very close call, a happy ending and comfort sex – and, of course, some pretty terrible puns!

Come pick it up at JMS Books for only $2.39 over here, or here at Amazon or here at BN for $2.99!

This one surprised me – I hadn’t entirely planned the ending, the way it turned out, but I like it! And, of course, Ryan’s parents will be thrilled to hear the news…

Come pick up a copy and find out what happens!

And my next full-length novel – 60k! – will be out from JMS Books on April 11! (So close to my birthday! Come celebrate with me!) Cadence and the Pearl is one of my favorite stories – it’s the one I’ve described as…about a lot of things, including m/m romance, merpeople, enchantment, the Northern Isles, grief and healing, attractive schoolteachers, secrets, coming home again, heroes (and not being the hero), and a sort of alternate-universe seventeenth-century setting, including theater and opera. And it will come with a bonus story in which someone’s father gets his own happy ending, because fathers need love too.

Here’s the link for Cadence – currently on pre-order sale for $3.99! I’m looking forward to sharing this fairytale world with you.

And a book rec – my very dear friend K.S. Murphy (who you might’ve seen in a book dedication or two of mine) also has a novel releasing today, also from JMS Books! It’s called Rock and Roll Chose Me, and it’s all about art and painting and music and hot guys and tattoos and falling in love, and I promise you’ll love it! So come pick that up too – here’s the JMS Books link, though you can also find it on Amazon and everywhere else!

Stay safe, take care, and – to borrow a line – be excellent to each other! ❤

Some free books, and some pre-order announcements! And much love.

First, the free books! I’ve mentioned before how lovely my publisher JMS Books is – and here’s one more example! To help get us through these…complicated times, they’re offering 51 titles for free over on their website! So if you’re in need of some happy endings, some romance, some comfort…come check them out! (The book I offered for this is Elemental, if you’d like a dark & stormy night, a first meeting, a ghost puppy, a writer with terrible writer’s block, and the adorable psychic new neighbor he falls for…)

Second, some upcoming releases now have pre-order links and cover art!

The third Extraordinary novella – with my M/M/M superhero guys: Ryan, John, and Holiday – will be released March 28 – coming up soon! Here’s the JMS Books link, where it’s currently on sale for only $2.39! I can promise some more action, some hurt/comfort (a lot of both, really!), and some tender comfort sex and taking care of each other…

My new original holiday novella is out now from JMS Books! It’s called Gingerbread Dreams, and it’s ~24,000 words of m/m romance fluff – featuring such elements as:
~ a holiday gingerbread baking competition
                ~1 grumpy judge
                ~1 adorable contestant
                ~ugly holiday sweaters
                ~medieval gingerbread recipes!
~The Grumpy One Is Soft For The Adorable Enthusiastic One!
                ~snuggling in a shared bed!
~some bonus cameos by Evan and Matt (well, Matt by representation in gingerbread art) from October Spice, if you want to know what they’re up to! (this story’s a stand-alone though so don’t worry if you’ve not read it!)
                ~the Most Adorable Cover!

You can get it at JMS Books here – 20% off until December 27, so only $3.19! –  or at Amazon here, or at BN here, or other places like Kobo, etc! Also, at JMS, it’s available as part of the Most Wonderful Time of the Year bundle – which gets you three holiday-themed m/m romance stories (mine, plus stories by the wonderful Nell Iris and R.W. Clinger) at an overall discount! Here’s the JMS link for that collection, and here’s the Amazon link for it too!

As part of the book release fun, I have done an Author Interview! With the lovely J. Scott Coatsworth, who also is part of the awesomeness behind the Queeromance Ink and Queer SF community groups!

So if you want to read me rambling about Terry Pratchett, medieval gingerbread recipes, and my writing process, come check it out!

Plus, you can see a picture of my face! Which is actually from a couple of years ago, before I started doing the blue/green tips in my hair, but it’s still a good picture of me.

I hope you enjoy, and I hope you’re having a marvelous December!
