Jane-Holly Meissner sent an update for Fae Child

Just wanted to write a quick note to say THANK YOU to all the new readers Fae Child gained yesterday. You’re all amazing, and I’m so excited to have you on board for this journey. When we reach 20 orders I’m going to be posting up chapter four - I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Please feel free to interact with the sample chapters, as well, either highlighting a passage you particularly like, or pointing out a typo. Both are equally helpful and will put Fae Child on Inkshares’ front page.

I have to run, but I’ll be in touch soon!

Through his delirium, Silar could see a face of pure white light hovering above his. The face uttered a single word in a bell like tone of voice. "Rest."

That escalated quickly! You went from "hay loft has just caught fire" to "burning timbers falling into the rest of the barn" in the space it took for them to scramble down the ladder. It’s a great action sequence but it could use a little clarification here, I think.

This was only one lantern, but there was still a lot of oil left inside, and so it was that the entire base was soon up in flames. The three other boys gaped in total horror as their play house, wreathed in flame, collapsed, nearly crushing both Ciln and Silar. They all tumbled down the ladder, past the shrieking barn animals and out the barn door to find help. Flaming pieces of wood lay strewn across the loft, one of them nearly crushing Ciln’s arm.

These descriptive sentences seem a little clunky - you can probably wrap the last three into one: "At only four feet nine inches, she was small and frail looking, and had just reached her twentieth birthday" Or something along those lines. "Compact" and "frail" contradict each other in my mind. The same goes for the description of her husband a few paragraphs down. :)

Her shoulder length blonde hair was as gold and bright as the sun, and her eyes as deep blue as the sea. She was minuscule, only four feet nine inches. Her body was short, compact, and rather frail looking. She was a woman of no more than 20 years.

I’m wondering if this is clear enough - I had someone ask me how Sammy got pulled through to the other side, and it’s because she was holding onto his collar (previous paragraph) when she went through. I could clarify it more, if I need to. Let me know what you think!
