Matt Kaye liked an update for She Is the End
Hey friends!

I may or may not have been a little bit tipsy last night (sources can neither confirm nor deny) when I wrote that update, but the crux of it was true: I don't really care that we didn't get to 100 on my birthday. I am STILL 30 TODAY. I will be for a while, yet. So... the contest is still on. When we reach 100 readers I'll raffle off two illustrations, one for the first 70 readers and another for the newest 30.

HOWEVER...

What if you're all, "Meh. I don't actually care about some illustration that doesn't exist yet. I just wanted to support my friend Cara..."?

That's okay! No big deal! However, my art for this book is actually a really big deal to me, and I don't want to send it to people who aren't going to see value in it. So I have a request:

If you actually do really want to be in the running to win the art, LIKE THIS UPDATE.

If you don't so much really care to receive any art, DON'T LIKE IT.

If you work for Inkshares... man, I don't know? Do you have rules for if you can win your potential authors' contests?

If you were raised in Minnesota and can't imagine how I could possibly not be silently offended if you don't like this update, it's okay. I grew up in Colorado. I'm not offended.

Thanks!

Now, go read about these books and consider pre-ordering them:

Witches Undercover by Rochelle German:

“Hold the torch a little lower, I can’t tell if that’s a newt or a candy bar wrapper.” Cheryl wiped her hair out of her face with the back of her hand. “And why did it have to be a torch? Don’t you think people will notice?”

“Like I said in the car, anything like a flashlight will emit EM radiation that could taint our specimens. It throws off the magic.” Kimberley lowered the torch closer to Cheryl’s back, careful not to singe her hoodie.

How can you not already want to buy this book?? I love love LOVE the fantastical blended so wittily with the mundane. So fun. I want to read it.

Drift by Danielle Mohr:

Jax flinches at the word "chip." Having his wrist chip changed out will end his military career and completely redefine his rank. The blue star insignia spinning slowly next to his bio in my retina screen will be stripped from him, replaced with the plain green half moon marking him as a civilian.

People will talk, certainly. Failing training is rare, particularly for someone of his genetic rank. Even without reading his signature, I'd known from his build, and his endurance and strength in prelims, that he was exceptionally well-designed. His parents will be distraught about his dismissal. They probably paid a fortune for his blueprint, and another hefty sum for his incubation and birth.

Such a careful, thoroughly designed world. John Robin's blog is going to love this lady. And the characters! They're already making me feel things!

Okay, back to the nighmarish mess that is Episode III...

Later, everyone!

:)

Matt Kaye liked Encounters with Rikki

"In Katrina, there was nowhere to go with your pets..."

On this 10th anniversary weekend when we're remembering the devastation of Hurricane Katrina (and, ironically, Florida is in a state of emergency for Hurricane Erika), I decided to post something close to my heart.

The Prologue from the book you pre-ordered, "Encounters with Rikki: From Hurricane Katrina Rescue to Exceptional Therapy Dog."

Find it here:  Remembering Katrina Pets

And when the books are published, you'll be among the FIRST to read the rest of the story.

      Many thanks for your interest!

Matt Kaye liked The Body of Chris

I'm excited to share with you that I am officially now a blogger for the International Bipolar Foundation! Here's a link to my first blog, titled, "Is Mania a Spiritual Experience?"

        http://www.ibpf.org/blog/mania-spiritual-experience

When the editor received my entry, she said, "I didn’t expect you to integrate spirituality and mania. I hadn’t heard that perspective before. Usually it seems more black and white."

Less black and white; I'd say that's a good thing! Thanks again for the support.

            MAJOR UPDATE:

Proofs for the e-book are in! They look great, other than one minor formatting glitch, so I'm hopeful they'll be ready soon. If you preordered during crowdfunding (laowai, waiguoren or zhongguotong), you should be able to download a copy in the not-too-distant future. Thank you again for everything; this would not have been possible without your support.

I've also been setting up a few readings/signings around the pub date (Nov. 10th), so please mark your calendars! As of right now, the following events are confirmed:

Nov. 12th (Thursday) at 7:00pm in Oakland, CA: Release party at Wolfman's Bookstore

Nov. 21st (Saturday) at 1:00pm in Needham, MA: Signing and discussion at New England Mobile Book Fair

Nov. 25th (Wednesday) at 4:30pm in Boston, MA: Release party at Row 34

Apr. 7th (Thursday) at 6:00pm in Boston, MA: Reading at the Boston Public Library

I've created Facebook invitations for the first two on my author page and am trying to book readings in Los Angeles, Denver and New York as well. The release party at Row 34 will be a private event, but any backers in the Boston area are certainly invited! Expect invitations for that to arrive in the next month or so. Can't wait to celebrate.

If you could continue to help me spread the word, I'd really appreciate it. Posting, tweeting, recommending, patrolling the streets in a sandwich board—it all goes a long way. If you are on social media, the official hashtag we've decided to use is #upMdownC. It would really be cool to see a few posts other than my own showing up there!

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Hope to see you all soon.
