Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Witherfist

Happy Friday, everyone. Today is an exciting day, as I get to share with you a milestone in the Witherfist journey: we now have 52 readers!

Yes, we’re over 20% of the way to this book being in your hands. Since we’ve passed the 50 mark, that means someone has won some artwork! I’ll be in touch with that person over the next few days.

Thank you so much for all of your support.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for When I’m 64

    Good Morning Ladies and Gents!

This morning I have another exciting update to share with you.  Last night, I received an email from the Inkshares Team letting me know that When I’m 64 has been selected as the September Pick of the Idiosyncraticate Syndicate!  For those of you that aren’t familiar with Inkshares Syndicates, what this means is that readers and writers have formed a group in which they pool their money, and select one book each month to support and offer a boost in sales.  This particular syndicate has a unique vision for their group and have chosen to support books that are in typically unsupported genres such as comedy, autobiographical, or in this case memoir.

I am so proud and honored to have been selected by the syndicate lead, and I wanted to share what he wrote about why my project was selected:

"It takes bravery to put your story out there no matter the subject matter -- even if it’s pictures of people arguing about politics -- but this memoir-within-a-memoir is truly something else. I couldn’t do this and I love that others can. I want to see this go all the way. It’s exactly the kind of book I want this syndicate to get behind. "- Billy O’Keefe

With the backing of this syndicate, I have the support of my fellow authors, and have a total of 346 pre-orders to date.  While this is amazing in and of itself- it does give me hope that we can reach the fully supported publishing tier of 750 pre-orders.  With 31 days left in my funding campaign it would be amazing of you all to continue to help spread the word about this project with friends, family and co-workers.

Thank you all for your continued love and support :)

    Yours in gratitude,

    Lauren

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Bad Medicine: Slay it queen!

      Dear Friends

The day has come for you to lip-sync FOR YOUR LIFE!

Just kidding. Today is the first drawing for a chance to become a character in the zombie/drag queen saga Bad Medicine: Slay It Queen!

But before we announce the winner I want to share a couple of things.

First, I’m working with several artists developing illustrations for Bad Medicine. I’m giving them little direction because I want to see what they come up with. This is the first one by the talented comic artist Bartolomeo Argentino.

His, interpretation is very Tina Turner meets Rainbow Brite and I love it! I love seeing how different people imagine my characters.

Also, Bad Medicine got a couple of shout-outs. Geek.com and Jenny Graham Jones gave some love to our drag heroin.

Here is what Jenny had to say “Talking about taking a tired genre and turning it into something fresh and new."

Read the stories here: geek.com, JennyGrahamJones.com

      Finally, the winner:

Red Redwine!! (AKA Miss Christine Brennecke)

Red Redwine is a classy queen from Philadelphia visiting New York for a classic Hollywood convention. Red gets caught in the mayhem of this poorly timed zombie apocalypse while getting ready to perform a Bette Midler tribute.

You’ll learn more about her in future chapters.

Pre-order today, send me your drag-name, and you may be a winner next week.

      Have great weekend friends!

Jane-Holly Meissner liked the forum thread, How I got to 250 orders in 10 days
I’m writing a follow-up to this, but likely won’t be done until after the contest. The short of it is that I think I’ve simplified the Inkshares marketing strategy into the four P’s:

Perseverance: You will have good days, bad days. Treat marketing your project as you do writer’s block.

Positivity: Be positive. All the time. If you’re not positive, fake it. Yes, people like Morrissey have made a career out of being sad saps, but they are the minority. It’s crucial that you believe and understand that you can create luck. It’s a fact. Doubt is the enemy of luck.

Personality: Who are you? Can I believe in you? Are you someone I’d want to hang out with? Also, when reaching out to old friends, what do they remember fondly about you? You are selling your book but you’re equally selling your own personal brand. Do people want to be associated with your brand? The answer should always be yes, but defining your brand is up to you.

Persistence: Make a plan. Don’t make the plan too rigid, but ensure that it encapsulates how you reach your goal. You need to sell 750 books. What is your plan for getting there? Who is going to help you? Can you anticipate pratfalls? What resources are your disposal now/later?

@Joey Angotti Last week I was beset by dragons. While these things are inevitable, they have subsided for the moment and I can resume with the awkward author videos. Dude, seriously, thank you. You’re a light in the creeping darkness.
