@Rhett Pennell it is as @Richard Heinz says. The contest was life, ceaseless, for 45 days straight. I suppose I put in an average of 8 hours a day writing messages, timeline posts, and obsessing over strategies to get the word out (some of which paid off). You just have to blitz. And then try to keep up the pace. Also, and this goes for everyone, set a daily goal and refuse to rest until you achieve it. Mine was five. Yours could be more or less, but what I mean is that the value of having that goal every day was that it was like a sanity waterline. I could justify feeling good about my progress if I reached it, and I had some reason to point at for feeling crappy if I didn’t reach it.

By the way I am just FULL of more great advice. And I’m willing to help anyone who asks. No playing favorites. No pressure. DM me [at] BulletTime000 on twitter

Going in without polish is going to be hard. That being said I did exactly that. When the first Sword & Laser hit I was planning my book and about a month out from writing. I quickly whipped something up and jumped in. It was stressful, don’t expect to get much writing done when you are campaigning.

Nothing like a trial by fire to vet an idea, and as an added benefit submitting a book to Inkshares is very low risk. If your funding is not successful it returns to draft state and you can attempt to fund it again at a later date when you feel ready. You’ll retain the book’s followers and any pre-orders will be refunded. Aside from the stress associated trying to fund a book (which is completely up to you,) there is little reason not to throw a book in the mix.

Michael Haase sent an update for The Madness of Mr. Butler

What an amazing response from everyone thus far! I greatly appreciate it. The entire story is mapped out, characters are falling in line, themes are in place...now I just have to make it all as enjoyable in type as it is in my head...

But I wanted to thank you all for the WONDERFUL support, and remind the 19 or you who have invested thus far that you can have your name or any name you wish appear within the story...just send it to me, and it shall be done (this is good for the first 50 readers)! I’ve already had three of you donate names, and I thank you for that. This is certainly nothing you MUST do, but I hope that it would personalize the reading experience for you. So...LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO BE IN MY BOOK!

Also, I have posted a video about the process of this contest, and I have many terrific people sharing it already. Thank you for that. I love you. Please feel free to share and to spread the word. Your support is amazing, and I want to recognize you early investors, but the book must pass 250 preorders in order to get published, so any casual mention to a friend counts and makes my grinch heart grow three sizes.

Thank you for your support, sorry for bugging you, but I’m getting excited. Off to writing and updating the BIG WALL. (It’s my planning wall in my basement, I wish I could put a picture up here for you to see.)
