    I would say this event came out of nowhere. Spend a little more detail toward the front end - the strange sensation - before it overcomes him. Get me more into his mind.

      he was overcome with a strange sensation, like someone delicately brushed a feather across his mind. It also seemed like he could hear a muffled voice call out of the wall itself. It was a deep, ancient voice, and low as the rumble of thunder. The sound, or at least what Whymer thought was a sound, shook him to his core. It slammed into him like a landslide and brought him to his knees, the hammer and chisel clattering to the ground.
