The Demons of Rome
In ancient Rome, a beggar boy is found to be a powerful mage and trained for war too soon to arrive.

I... almost want a 'reminder' of the world you're setting this in here. These guards need to be on-edge. War is coming. They're frustrated they can't be on the front lines, or happy about it, are they corrupt? Lots of little details you could throw in here in the dialogue between guards to establish the world a little better. Still, even without these, your story's moving along NICELY. I like it.

"Careful, he bites," the first guard said, "I think we best search him, see if he's got anything else on him."

Well.... I LIKED this chapter, but I don't think it's quite done yet. There is no breadcrumb trail that leads me into the second chapter, nothing set up. It can't be "just Iatus" here on his own, so to speak. Let's get some start to the whole thing that he's going to be a MAGE! In ROME! That's what will hook me all the way.
