Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Exile, Magus

Only 6 days left in the campaign, and only one more update after this one (not counting a post campaign update).  So if you’ve been holding off on preordering don’t delay much longer or you’ll miss your chance.  Thanks goes out to everyone who has supported me this far, and here’s hoping we can manage to get at least 187 more orders in 6 days.

I was going to continue sharing bits of background on my world and its peoples/creatures with this update, but a few days ago one of my fellow contributors to the Too Many Controllers anthology, Brian Guthrie brought up something more important.  There has already been an update sent out from the TMC page, but in the off chance that any of you reading this Exile, Magus update don’t also follow TMC I want to share it here as well.

Just an update for you about an event some of the Inkvengers will participate in this Fall.

BLUF: Support the Inkvengers as we raise money for the hospital that saved the lives of people close to us. Go to Extra Life to find out more.

This weekend, gamers around the world will come together for 24 (25 with the time change) hours of gaming raising money for children. The event is Extra Life and all the money the gamers raise goes to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the US. The event has raised $22 million up to this point, over $8 million last year alone.

This event is particularly close to the Inkvengers’ hearts.  We all know people who have been in a children’s hospital, many in our own family.  Brian Guthrie’s niece was born into Providence of Alaska at 26 weeks. They helped keep her in the womb as long as possible, safely delivered her, and saved her life during her 72 day stay in the NICU. She’s now a happy, bubbling kid full of life thanks to that hospital. All of the funds he raises go to Providence of Alaska.  To give you an idea of the need, the bed his niece lived in for those 72 days costs almost $10,000 to replace.  In 5 years, Brian has only managed to raise $4300.  The need is great.

Many, many more gamers have similar stories about the hospitals they support. In fact, the entire event was inspired by Victoria Enmon, a little girl diagnosed with cancer that wanted to do something for the other kids around her that were more sick. You can learn more about her story in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHSZ_82wiJg . Warning: tissues should be nearby.

So, what can you do? Well, you can join in and support a hospital. Learn more at Extra Life. But, if you’d rather just support a gamer, you can go to that site and find someone also doing this.  Some of the Inkvengers will be participating during the main event this Saturday, others on another day.  You can find Brian and Amanda Orneck by searching for their names on the event page or you can support their team.  They are on a team called the Pixel Sharks, which is spread out across the world, mostly current or former military service-members wanting to help others.  And don’t worry if you can’t donate right away.  You have until the end of the month to help.

          1. Hardcovers Shipping This Week

For the past few weeks, I feel like I have been in a mental daze as I’ve watched RUNE’s official release date quickly approach. This emotive state of tense anticipation--filled with excitement, fear, and hope--is now coming to its apex, because after so many long months of waiting, the physical copies of Rune of the Apprentice are finally being shipped out!

This whole experience has been been both an exciting and terrifying experience. Some of you will be surprised to hear this, but I am actually a deeply introverted person. So going to conventions and meeting new people and sharing such an intimate thing as my first novel has been personally challenging beyond words. (In truth, the only way I could do it was by dressing up in cosplay!) Although immeasurably stress provoking, putting myself out there in such a personal way--and risking humiliation, failure, and ridicule--has forced me to grow in ways I never imagined possible. You all have allowed me this opportunity to share myself on such a visceral level, and for that I am eternally grateful. It is my deepest hope that you enjoy the epic journey that is Rune of the Apprentice and take as much pleasure in its world and characters as I have.

In that vein, many of you have already downloaded your ebooks and told me via email and Twitter (@stonejamison) how much you are enjoying the novel--thank you so much for your kind notes! It also warmed my heart to see a new blog review posted by THE NERDY GIRL EXPRESS yesterday. Words cannot describe the joy I feel when learning of a new set of readers who resonates so deeply with my story and its characters. RUNE was a labor of love and I am filled with gratitude knowing that people are enjoying reading it as much as I enjoyed writing and sharing it with the world. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for making this experience possible not only for me, but each and every reader, too!

(An excerpt of THE NERDY GIRL EXPRESS review is at the bottom of this update -- but click HERE to read the full version.)

          2. Exclusive Letter In Hardcover Edition

Sadly, due to logistics outside of our control, we were unable to get the hardcovers signed by launch date. In fact, Inkshares actually had to perform some publishing magic to get the books printed and shipped to you on time.

BUT to make it up to you all, I have personally (at my own expense) designed and printed a special letter to be included in each physical copy of the novel. This letter includes the fateful and prophetic message to RUNE’s main character, Aleksi--sent by his exiled mentor, Master Rudra. This is the letter which not only spurs the epic journey of Rune of the Apprentice, but also serves as a cryptic guide to our young hero upon his tumultuous adventure.

Embedded within the letter is both guidance and warning to Aleksi, and although confusing (for both him and you, the reader!) it is my hope that having your own physical copy will help you discern, decipher, and be able to find each and every prophetic hint and reference hidden within Rudra’s message. Seriously, every line of this letter is in direct reference to the events of the story and directly correlate to Aleksi’s trials and tribulations. I think I will run a special giveaway for people who can find all of the references. Think you "catch’em" all?

The only way to get this physical version of the letter is either by pre-ordering the book like you all have, or meeting me in person at a convention or book signing. I have also included a brief thank you note from me at the end, too. I want to mention, I won’t be the one physically folding and inserting these letters into the books being shipped to you this week--that noble task was graciously accepted by Elena Stofle of Inkshares, who has truly earned over a thousand thank-you’s (there are a lot of books being sent out, folks.) I have been folding my own set of letters in preparation for upcoming signings, and I can tell you this is no small feat.

Which leads me to my next topic...

This has already been a really long update, so I will keep my sign off quick: Words cannot convey the feelings in my heart. I am so humbled to be able to have my book in your hands. It is both an honor and privileged. Thank you.

"With Jamison Stone, you get a writer who clearly understands the epic fantasy audience, yet also must find a way to appeal to readers who rarely explore these kinds of books. I belong to the latter group. The key here is to excel at characterization and plot, as Stone does. In addition, I found that Stone’s writing has an almost poetic allure where there is a beautiful and insightful rhythm to his word choices. Stone’s writing style is quite seductive. Like an artist, Stone uses descriptive words as his brush, meticulously painting each character... I applaud Stone for demonstrating his incredible writing ability, psychological insight and descriptive flair in his first novel. Rune of the Apprentice offers readers a memorable experience." --THE NERDY GIRL EXPRESS (click HERE to read the full review.)

                Greetings Jackolytes,

I trust all is well. The purpose of this update is to give a shout out to a good mate of mine, André Brun. He’s currently neck deep in a thrilling horror story contest and could use some help. Right now he’s sitting  fourth and needs a boost to jump into at least third position. André is a top quality man and his book, Arcadia, is a top quality read. I encourage you to follow this link and pre-order. Arcadia is a book Jack Trevayne would definitely want you to read!

                Cheers,

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Blurred Weaponry (Saints of the Void, Book 1)

This isn’t super short, but it IS an important announcement.

Thank you to everyone who clicked follow here and there for Blurred Weaponry. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, I have to remove myself from Inkshares as a writer and release projects independently for now. The reason is simple: I’m god-awful at this. I can’t sell myself or my work for the life of me, and couldn’t even give the book away and have people take it. I was planning on spending a couple thousand dollars just for this first novel in advertising with the HOPES of getting the measly 250 copies ordered for Quill, but what if I didn’t make it because I’m terrible at hammering home sales? That thought, and potential extreme loss of cash, drove me away from pretending to be salesman.

[Blah blah blah, deleted second paragraph full of justifications because who cares, and now moving on…]

In any case, I’ll still be on Inkshares. I’ll be writing a review here and there, about every ten days (I’ll be doing one later tonight), supporting a syndicate, sharing via twitter, and liking pages / posting comments on Facebook. I like this platform, and love the chance it gives to authors who are better at being salesfolk than I can ever be, so I’m not really going anywhere (honestly, I’ll be way more active thanks to reviews than I ever was while updating since I never had anything to say).

On a final note, Blurred Weaponry will be out in like 3 weeks. I’ll have a very temporary download link up (I mean, seriously, 24 hours at most) for free copies to Inkshares followers / authors if they DM me on twitter when I announce that. My next update will be about then, and should also include the reviews I’ve done (if they were accepted ^_^) and links to those projects.

May the words be with you. Also, the force. That’s fairly important, sometimes. Peace out,

                  -MAV
