Manifesto: A Tale of Murder just got picked for the Thriller Night Syndicate!  Hopefully this convinces some of you to give it a pre-order.

    HELP - i am VERY confused. I placed an order for my book club . We felt as though we were picking an exciting author AND casting a vote for independent publishing. In the past we had purchased from the big bad one but not felt great about feeding a near monopoly. Inkshares seemed like a great alternative but the order seems to be cancelled - but yet it is on sale here. John seems as confused as i. Please clarify - i am not a systems engineer but this seems beyond a systems problem.

      Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Witherfist

      We did it! Witherfist has hit it’s light publishing goal!

      Yes - we’ve reached 250 preorders. This means that the book will be published as part of the Quill imprint on Inkshares.

      How? Yesterday, the Staff syndicate made Witherfist their pick for November, adding their preorders to the three (!!!) other syndicates who have supported Witherfist this month. The amount of support the book has received from the community this month is just astonishing, and I’m so grateful  Five syndicate badges are now displayed proudly on the books page.

      What does all of this mean?

      Witherfist will be published - but right now it is still in ’funding’ and will be until 31st December. You can continue to preorder ebooks and signed paperbacks as often as you like - and in the confidence that you will get a book in exchange for your support.

      I’ll be continuing to send updates out throughout the funding period and beyond, to keep you posted on what’s happening. Once the funding period is over, I should hopefully be able to give you more details on when you can look forward to receiving your copy of Witherfist.

      In the meanwhile... thank you all for your support!

      If you haven’t already done so, please consider leaving a review and sharing the book with your friends!

        I recently stumbled on what I see as a divergence in philosophy between how many of the visitors perceive the browse experience on Inkshares and how how it was designed.

        The browse page seems to be designed for exploration, and thus emulates strolling through a brick and mortar store, drawing your finger along the spines and picking them up as they jump out at you.

        Online purchasers tend to like the maximum amount of information density possible for their time visiting a page. For me, and some like me, the browse is slow because I am used to finding books on sites like Amazon, where I can find books through a list of genres that dial down through breadcrumb list into even more refined genres.  In this search format, I can find all the books of a certain genre quickly, sort through reviews, find recommendations based on other books I’ve purchased, all in moments.

        I’ve seen much of this functionality in the backend of Inkshares. The search box provides access to genres, once you back one book the site brings up recommendations of others you might like. (Just some quick examples.) But what isn’t currently on Inkshares is  quick access to information about books in the same way it can be found on Goodreads or Amazon. We’re still in a brick-and-mortar mindset about user experience, and that slows access to many books.

        Now if Inkshares is fine with browse continuing to be a meandering sort of experience, that is fine. It feels much like Netflix in that you come on hoping to find just a nice fantasy book, but end up scrolling through covers until you find something that *might* fit the mood you’re in.

        I just find that for users like me who are used to online book purchasing, I expected less of a treasure hunt when it comes to finding books.

          @Amanda Orneck

          Apologies, that’s what I meant. Originally, the announcement of the contest entrants was 5pm yesterday. I was wondering if there was any idea when that time had been moved to :)

            Grabs you from the first chapter - I'm definitely interested to see what happens next. Irusai and Arren are great characters with a lot of story to tell. J. Graham-Jones is a talented author and one to watch!
